Abstract

PURPOSE: To aquire good brake force both under driving and parking by setting two brake shoes in such an arrangement that an end of the front shoe faces to the cylinder fixed on a back plate of the drum brake and an end of the rear shoe to the piston assembled in it, where the other ends of the shoes are coupled with each other.
CONSTITUTION: A wheel cylinder 10 is fixed on a back plate 7 of the drum brake 5 for the rear wheels, and an end 8a of the front brake shoe 8 is arranged facing to this cylinder 10 while an end 9a of the rear brake shoe 9 to the piston 11 assembled in the cylinder 10. The other ends 8b, 9b of the shoes 8, 9 are coupled with each other by means of a coupling member 12. The loose end 14b of a lever 14, which is pivoted on the shoe 9 by means of a pin 13, is connected to the cable 15 of a parking brake operating device, and a strat 16 is interposed between the lever 14 and the other shoe 8. By this construction, a brake force for the parking period twice as large as that for the service brake can be obtained, and the parking performance is thereby greatly enhanced.
