Abstract

PURPOSE: An orange-emitting phosphor having a high fluorescent flux and good color rendering, which is represented by a specified compositional formula, in which part of Gd or Sn is replaced with trivalent europium acting as an activator.
CONSTITUTION: A phosphor represented by a compositional formula: Gd2Sn2O7: Eu+3, in which part of Gd and/or Sn is replaced with trivalent europium acting as an activator. It is preferred to substitute trivalent europium as an activator, in an amount of 3W15 atomic %, based on Gd and Sn. As a method for preparing this phosphor, there can be mentioned a method in which oxides as starting materials, such as Gd2O3, Eu2O3 and SnO2 are mixed together in the powder form, and the resulting material mixture is fired in air or in an atmosphere of oxygen at about 1,300W1,500°C. The phosphor thus prepared is a phosphor having emission peaks at 588.6nm and 596.7nm, existing in the region of high visibility.
