Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an ion exchange material which has high selective ion exchange capacity for Cs and has no volatility of Cs at the heat treatment for solidifying Cs by preparing the ion exchange material consisting of K2O.nTiO2 (n is integers of 1W5).
CONSTITUTION: The Cs in an aqueous soln. is ion-exchanged to CsxO.nTiO2. mH2O (x is 0.5W2, n is 1W8, m is 0W7) by using K2O.nTiO2 (n is integers of 1W5). Thence, oxides of metals selected from Mg, CoII, Ni, Zn, Cu, Al, Fe, Cr, CoIII, Ga or their metallic salts which become oxides when calcined, and further excess TiO2 are mixed in this or not mixed, whereby the cesium titanate compound of hollandite type heated at 500W1,300°C or a mixture of cesium titanate compound and titanium dioxide is obtained.
