Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture silver peroxide having superior stability even in a KOH electrolyte by adding a Pb component and an Al component to silver peroxide fromed by the reaction of an alkali hydroxide, silver nitrate and an alkali peroxide followed by mixing.
CONSTITUTION: An alkali hydroxide such as KOH, AgNO3 and an alkali peroxide such as K2S2O8 are reacted in the form of aqueous solns., forming silver peroxide (AgO). To this precipitated AgO before drying or AgO powder after drying are added a Pb compound such as PbO or Pb powder and an Al compound such as Al(OH)3 or Al powder, and they are mixed and dried. About 0.01W10wt% each as metal of the Pb and Al components is preferably contained in the AgO. When Pb powder and Al powder are used, most of the powder is preferably adjusted to ≤50μ in particle size. AgO obtd. by this method is effective in lowering the generation of gas especially in an aqueous KOH soln. for over a long time, and it has superior stability.
