Abstract

PURPOSE: To economically produce the long-length optical composite overhead earth wire by forming a tube of an inside diameter 4mm or more by metal tapes around a multicore optical cable, welding its seam portion, immediately cooling the same and drawing it by dies or the like then twisting aluminum or aluminum-coated steel wires.
CONSTITUTION: The metal tape B being let off from a metal tape supplier 2 is placed longitudinally along the optical cable A being let off from an optical cable supply 1, by way of a cleaning vessel 3, tape slitter 4 and guide rollers 5, 6 and is then covered and formed to a pipe of an inside diameter 4mm or more by a forming machine 7. The seam portion thereof is then welded by a welding machine 8. Immediately after the welding, the pipe is cooled in a cooling vessel 10 and is drawn to the specified shape by dies or roll 11 and is then wound on a take-up machine 12. The resulted metalcoated optical cable as a center is twisted with Al, Al- coated steel wires or the like to make the overhead earth wire. Thereby, the overhead earth wire may be economically produced to the long-length optical cable without giving any damage.
