Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance product life time to a large extent by a method wherein decarburization treatment is carried out such that C content of a surface layer of an austenite steel comprising a specific component composition such as C, Si or the like as well as having a specific relation between C, Mn and Ni is adjusted so as to satisfy a specific formula and, thereby a surface layer is hardened at a low cost. CONSTITUTION:An austenite steel containing C; 0.3-1.3%, Si; <=2%, Mn; <= 1.6%, Ni; <=8%, of which C content satisfies a formula C%>=[1-1/18(Mn%+ Ni%)] (a range shown by a solid line) and (Mn+Ni) content is 5-16% is subjected to decarburization treatment to adjust C content of a surface layer thereof so as to satisfy a formula C%<[1.1-1/10(Mn%+Ni%)] (within a range shown by ablique lines). Thereby, the surface layer is deformed to martensite by a simple method compared to a conventional method to form a hardened layer and an obtained steel can be applied as a material for requiring abrasion resistance as well as it's product life time is enhanced to a large extent.
