Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a steel pipe which has high hardness only at the internal surface and is suitable for the conveyance of slurry at relatively low cost, by forming steel, increased in the content of a component, such as C and Mn, for improving hardenability, into a steel pipe, and then quenching the steel pipe from the internal surface.
CONSTITUTION: A steel pipe consisting of 0.10W0.50% C, ≤0.80% Si, 0.50W2.0% Mn, and Fe and inevitable impurities as the remainder is quenched from the internal surface to obtain an internal surface hardened type hardness distribution while the internal surface has ≥300 Vickers hardness Hv (10) and the hardness from the center part of pipe thickness to the external surface side is ≤250, thus improving the wear resistance of the internal surface and then favorable drawing toughness as the whole of the steel pipe.
