Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce titanium-oxide-coated layer excellent in optical properties and film strength by causing a specific organic titanium compound vapor to contact heated glass substrate. CONSTITUTION:Glass substrate surface which is pulled out from a melting furnace and heated to about 500-650 deg.C is made to contact vapor of one or more of organic titanium compounds such as tetraoctyleneglycoltitanate and tetrakis(2-ethylhexyl) titanate. At this time, thermal decomposition reaction produces a highly smooth and flat titanium oxide film on the surface of the substrate. In this manner, thermal ray reflection glass having resistance to alkalis and acids and high quality optical quality is provided.
