Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a nitride with uniform, high purity at low cost without forming an explosive reaction by a method wherein the granulated powder of the powder of a hydrogen compound belonging to a IV A group is nitrified under a specified condition.
CONSTITUTION: Granulated powder with the distribution of grain diameters, whose grains with 0.1W5mm grain diameters are not less than 80%, is made up by pressing and pulverizing the powder of a hydrogen compound (TiH2, ZrH2, HfH2, etc.) belonging to a IV A group. The said granulated powder is gradually supplied into a rotary furnace under a nitrogen (or NH3) atmosphere held at not less than 900°C so that the thickness in the rotary furnace be not more than 10mm, and reacted, thus manufacturing the desired nitride.
