Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve wear resistance and badness of clutching by subjecting sintered clutch hub used in automobile to any one or both of steam streatment and ion-nitriding treatment.
CONSTITUTION: Alloying elements composed of regulated components are press- molded into clutch hub and then sintered, and then the sintered body is steam- treated in a water vapor atmosphere kept at a fixed temperature or subjected to an ion-nitriding treatment in a nitrogen gas atmosphere kept at a fixed temperature. Or, the sintered body is subjected to both the treatment methods in which composite heat treatment is applied. The application of these treatments increases the surface hardness of clutch hub to cause a sealing action and an oil-enclosing action in the oxide layer formed, preventing the scattering of lubricating oil. Thus, the retentivity of lubricating oil and clutching action can be improved and its wear resistance can also be raised.
