Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture the clutch hub with excellent abrasion resistance and clutching ability by a method wherein water vapor treatment is applied to a sintered clutch hub obtained from a ferrous metal powder and, after the water vapor layer formed on sliding portions is removed, hard chromium plating is applied.
CONSTITUTION: A ferrous type alloy powder having a specific component is molded under pressure to form a molded article with a density of 6.3g/cm3 or more and, thereafter, said molded article is sintered in a heating furnace having a controlled atmosphere to manufacture the sintered clutch hub. Subsequently, this sintered clutch hub is mantained in a water vapor atmosphere at temp. range of 500W600°C for 30minW2hr to apply the water vapor treatment. By this water vapor treatment, the thickness of an oxide layer formed on a surface of the sintered clutch hub (sliding part) is pref. about 3W20μ. Next, this oxide layer is removed mechanically and the hard chromium plating treatment is applied on a spline portion of the sintered clutch hub. As a result, a clutch hub with good product stability is obtained inexpensively.
