Abstract

PURPOSE: To remarkably increase the heat transmission coefficient of a gas-to-gas heat exchanger by inserting heat pipes into high and low temperature gas passages to be heat exchanged and dipping the ends thereof in the fluid layer of gas passages.
CONSTITUTION: High and low temperature fluid layers 4 and 5 are formed in high and low temperature side ducts 2 and 3, respectively flowing with high and low temperature gas streams 6 and 7, respectively by using suitable fluid medium such as, for example, sand or the like, and a number of heat pipes 1 are so disposed that both the ends thereof are dipped in the fluid layers, respectively. Thus, heat is transmitted from the high temperature side fluid layer 4 through the heat pipe 1 into the low temperature fluid layer 5 to thus transmit the heat from the gas to the pipes remarkably by the agitaing action of the fluid layers due to passage of the gas vigorously to thereby heat the low temperature gas.
