Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce watch parts, which are excellent in mechanical strength and in size stability and which have metallic colors, by molding a polyphenyl sulfide which is strenthened by blending a non-metallic fibrous filler coated with metal.
CONSTITUTION: A non-metallic fibrous substance such as glass or polyester fibers having a diameter of about 10 to 50 microns and a length of about 1 to 50 mm is coated with a metal such as aluminum, brass or copper having a thickness of about 0.3 to 15 microns. The substance thus coated is cut to a suitable length thereby to prepare a filler. This filler is blended in 30 to 80 wt% with polyphenyl sulfide to prepare a resin composite. This is molded into the desired shape at a resin temperature of about 290 to 350°C, at a molding temperature of about 70 to 160°C under a pressure of about 500 to 2000 kg/cm2 thereby to produce watch parts.
