Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform plural times of ion modulation by the single primary electrostatic latent images through the use of a photosensitive screen by applying the specific corona discharge.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of the insulating member 4 of a screen 1 is charged negative by a corona wire 5. Next, the AC voltage application superposed with the positive DC voltage on a corona wire 7 and the image radiation of an original image 10 by light 11 are simultaneously accomplished, thus the surface potential of the member 4 becomes positive on the bright part L side. Next, rays 12 are radiated to the entire surface and the potential on the dark D side changes to the potential proportional to the surface potential of the member 4, whereby the primary electrostatic latent image is formed. Next, positive corona ion current 18 is applied by a corona wire 14. On the bright part L side, the passage of this corona ion current through the opening part of the screen is blocked by the elctric field α and flows into a conductive member 2. On the dark part D side, the ion current 18 effectively arrives at the recording member 15 on the counter electrode 13 to which negative voltage is applied, owing to the electric field β, thus forming the secondary electrostatic latent image on the member 15.
