Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve orientation and improve surface grade by forming half-cured insulation films on the perfectly cured insulation films and rubbing these then allowing these to cure perfectly.
CONSTITUTION: Glass substrates 1 provided with transparent electrodes 2 are dipped in an alcohol solution of Si compound, whereby SiO2 insulation films 3 of a uniform thickness are obtained. When the films 3 are heat treated to about 500°C, the films 3 cure. Next, again the substrates 1 are dipped in the same solution, whereby SiO2 insulation film second layers 4 of a uiform thickness are obtained. This time, the substrates 1 are heat treated to about 200°C, then the layers 4 cure half and become slightly firm films. Thereafter, the layers 4 are rubbed in the fixed direction by polishing cloth such as of wool, etc., whereby fine scores are given. Next, the layers 4 are heat treated at around 500°C to cure. Thereafter, two sheets of the substrates 1 are held by a spacer 5 to form a cell, into which liquid crystal 6 is sealed.
