Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a liquid crystal cell of superior mass productivity by applying an orientation treatment layer by diagonal vapor deposition of SiO on one substrate out of a pair of substrates, and forming an SiO2 film on the other substrate, then rubbing said SiO2 film and applying an orientation treatment layer. CONSTITUTION:An orientation treatment layer 7 is formed with SiO on an upper substrate 5 formed with a transparent conductive film 6, by making diagonal vapor deposition at 70-90 deg. angles of vapor deposition. An SiO2 film is formed on a lower substrate 8 formed with a transparent conductive film 9, and is further rubbed, whereby an orientation treatment layer 10 is formed. Fine grooves are made in this rubbing direction, and liquid crystal molecules array along these fine grooves. The upper, and lower substrates 5, 8 having been treated in this way are sealed by a glass sealing material 11, and a liquid crystal 12 is injected therein, after which the cell is sealed.
