Abstract

PURPOSE: A mixture of aliphatic glycols and nonglycols that boil at temperatures near the boiling points of glycol is subjected to liquid-liquid extraction with a specific polar solvent and nonpolar solvent, thus separating title compounds, a starting material of synthetic resins, inexpensively and efficiently.
CONSTITUTION: Aliphatic glycols of 5W19 carbon atoms and nonglycols boiling at temperatures near the boiling points of glycols are separated from each other by liquid-liquid extraction using a polar solvent and a nonpolar solvent as hexane or heptane wherein a mixture of over 65wt% of methanol and less than 35wt% of water is used as the polar solvent. The ratio of the extraction solvent (polar solvent + nonpolar solvent) to the mixture to be extracted is about over 1(ml/g), preferably over 3. The temperature is 20W40°C.
USE: Lubricant, coating, adhesive, raw material of perfumes.
