Abstract

PURPOSE: To smoothly start an engine, hold down the emitted quantity of unburned substances in the warming-up of the engine and reduce the consumption of fuel, by setting the fuel increase rate at the starting of the engine different from that after the starting.
CONSTITUTION: The fuel increase rate depends on the temperature of cooling water. Air is sucked through an air cleaner 1. The flow rate of the air is controlled by a throttle valve 2. The air is supplied to a combustion chamber 5 through a surge tank 3 and an intake valve 4. Heated fuel is injected into the combustion chamber by a fuel injector 6. The outputs of an air flow meter 15, a water temperature sensor 16, a revolution angle sensor 18 and a start detector 20 are applied to a computer 21. An appropriate quantity of the fuel is injected at a proper timing by the injector 6 on the basis of the output of the computer 21. The fuel increase rate is kept relatively large at the starting of the engine but relatively small after the starting, by the output of the computer 21 in connection with the rise in the temperature of cooling water.
