Abstract
PURPOSE: To promote the spheroidizing reaction of graphite on purpose to manufacture the excellent product of nodular graphite cast iron, by installing the graphite spheroidizing main reaction chamber and auxiliary reaction chamber within the mold for casting the nodular graphite cast iron, in series before the product cavity.
CONSTITUTION: The casting molds 1, 1, providing the down gate 3, spheroidizing main reaction chamber 5, auxiliary reaction chamber 6, cross gate 4, weir 7, and product cavity 8, are previously formed into a split type. The graphite spheroidizing agent 9 of Fe-Si-Mg alloy is charged into the main reaction chamber 5, and the auxiliary reaction chamber 6, and the molds 1, 1, are combined. The liquid cast iron is poured from the down gate 3 into the mold, and reacts on the graphite spheroidizing agent 9 in the main reaction chamber 5; hereby, the graphite flake is transformed into the nodular graphite. The liquid cast iron, unreacted on the spheroidizing agent 9, reacts on the spheroidizing agent within the auxiliary reaction chamber 6, and the spheroidization of the graphite is promoted. On the other hand, instead of the auxiliary reaction chamber 6, the mold provided with the deformed down gate whose pouring port 13 has sectional area A larger than sectional area C of the overflow port 14, and the upward cross gate 15, can be empolyed for promoting the uniform diffusion of the spheroidizing agent due to the turbulent flow of the liquid metal.
