Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a metal mold for casting which is so made as to prevent shrinkage from occuring in the thick wall part of a casting by fitting a core consisting of a cupper material in the opposing part of the cavity of the shape corresponding to the thick wall part of a metal mold which produces a casting having a thick wall part.
CONSTITUTION: A core 4 consisting of copper is provided in the mold 3 of the opposing part of a cavity 2 of a shape corresponding to the thick wall part of a mold 1. When molten metal is poured into this metal mold, the high heat of the molten metal flowed into the cavity 2 of the shape corresponding to the thick wall part is absorbed by the core 4 consisting of a copper material of high heat conductivity and is released to the outside. Therefore, the occurrence of shrinkage in the thick wall part of the casting is prevented. If desired, it is possible to permit faster cooling of the thick wall part by using the core provided with a hole 6 for flowing of fluid, for example, air or water, for the core 5 consisting of copper.
