Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase remarkably desulfurization efficiency, by controlling an atmosphere contacting with hot iron surface at a prescribed gas concn., and by controlling the volume of dispersing region of rising foam formed with gas blown into the hot iron. CONSTITUTION:N2 gas or mixed gas of N2 gas with O2, CO2 is blown into hot iron 4 as a conveying gas together with powdered CaC2 of a particle diameter not larger than 0.2 mm from a conduit 7 through a fire-resistant lance pipe 3 to desulfurize the hot iron. The concns. of O2, CO2, CO in the atmosphere contacting with the surface of the hot iron is controlled respectively to not higher than 3 %, not higher than 5 %, and not higher than 12 %. Simultaneously the volume of inverted conical foam-dispersing region formed with the conveying gas blown into the hot iron, the gas which rising through the hot iron 4, is regulated to a volume not less than 1/15 that of hot iron contained in the vessel. The conveying gas having risen through the hot iron passes through the opening of the cover of the vessel at a speed pref. not smaller than 3.5 m/sec.
