Abstract
PURPOSE:To continuously cast the sound bloom which is reduced of central segregation by converting the molten steel discharging flow energy from an immersion nozzle to the rotating motion of the molten steel in the mold thereby fusion-cutting the ends of the columnar crystals of the bloom crystallizing on the mold walls. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel 10 discharged into a mold 8 is given rotating motion by tilting the discharging hole 4 of an immersion nozzle 2 downward. This gives the rotating motion such as the one shown by the arrows to the molten steel pool in the mold 8. This rotating motion so acts to increase isometric zones by fusion-cutting the ends of the columnar crystals 14 trying to grow always toward the mold center in the perpendicular direction from the mold wall in the process of being rapidly cooled in the mold 8 and gradually forming frozen shell 12. Further, it causes the nonmetallic inclusions which are trying to be captured by the frozen shell 12 to float and be joined into the slag 16 formed by the surface powder of the molten steel pool. The bloom by this method has many isometric zones and becomes the sound bloom which is reduced of central segregation on account of the reduced inclusions.
