Abstract

PURPOSE: To bring an active carbon temperature close to the atmospheric temperature, accelerate adsorption-desorption reaction, and thereby enhance a cainstor capability by a method wherein a part of heat exchanger fins are made to contact with active carbon and at the other part fins are protruded out of container.
CONSTITUTION: When an automobile is stopped, fuel vapor from the tank is passed through pipe 9, holes of punched metal 4b, and glass fiber layer 6b, and is admitted into active carbon layer 7 to be adsorbed. At this time, adsorption heat is dissipated through good conductivity heat exchanger fins 5 which contact the active carbon at one part and are extruded out of canistor at other part. This relaxes temperature rise in the canistor internal and lowers a maximum temperature. When the fuel vapor is to be desorbed, heat required for desorption is supplied through the heat exchanger fins 5 from the external of the canistor. This results in gradual temperature fall in canistor internal and raises a minimum temperature.
