Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a high-purity tube having no impurity and residual bubbles by a method wherein a hollow and rod-type porous glass sintered member is formed from glass-forming raw gas under hydrolysis reaction, etc. and is exposed to gas of dehydrator, then is made transparent by heating at a high temperature. CONSTITUTION:Raw gas such as SiCl4 and H2 are supplied from feeder 14 for glass-forming raw gas, is passed through rotary connecter 13 and guided into one end of pipe-type silica-glass support rod 12 mounted to the rotating lifter 11, then gas is projected from the other end of rod 12. O2-H2 gas jetted from torch 15 is used to cause flame-hydrolysis reaction on the raw gas so as to form hollow porous- glass sintered body 16 consisting of glass particles, at the end of the support rod 12. The sintered body 16 is heated to a high temperature by electric furnace 17 and at the same time gas containing SOCl2 is introduced from inlet 18 for dehydration. This allows the sintered body 16 to be vitrified, thereby providing a hollow transparent glass tube.
