Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate manufacturing of pads for disk brake in forming a pad consisting of a sintered friction member and a back plate, by forming the back plate on the sintered friction member having a predetermined shape integrally by way of molding, and thereby simplifying the manufacturing process.
CONSTITUTION: In manufacturing a pad, iron powder is at first molded into shape under pressure and a circular projection 9 having or not having an expanded portion 10 at its top is formed on the surface of friction member 8 sintered at a high temperature, where back plate 7 is to be coupled. In case that the back plate is to be made, for instance, of metal, molten metal is poured into an appropriate mold placed on friction member 8 for forming back plate 7 by way of casting. On the other hand, in case that the back plate is to be made of synthetic resin, back plate 7 is formed by way of injection molding or the like by injecting synthetic resin into the mold. Thus, a pad can be manufactured with ease by way of simple molding process, and at the same time, a sufficient bonding strength can be obtained through provision of projection 9.
