Abstract
PURPOSE:To lower electric power and cost and reduce size by attracting the movable part which is built in with optical fibers by the magnetic flux of the iron core composed of semi-rigid magnetic material thereby opening and closing the optical path. CONSTITUTION:The iron core 1 composed of semi-rigid magnetic material is fixed to a metal substrate 8 by way of an insulator and winding 2 is provided. The movable part 6 consisting of a movable spring 3, armature 4 and optical fiber 5 is mounted to the support plate 3 fixed to the substrate 8. Here, the optical fibers 13 are mounted to the input-output fiber connecting parts 12 so that when the movable part 6 is closed their optical axis align to that of the optical fiber 5. When the specified current in the positive direction is applied to the winding 2 this constitution, the movable part 6 is attracted to the iron core 1 side to transmit light without any loss. Further, if negative current is applied to the winding 2, the movable part 6 returns and the optical path is cut off by the armature 4. These enable the photo switch which may be driven at low electric power by the iron core of the semi- rigid magnetic material owing to residual magnetic flux and self-holding characteristic to be obtained.
