Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily manufacture a graphite-dispersed metal by maintaining a molten metal having no compatibility with graphite at a state free from gas, fat, oil and oxide and dispersing graphite particles whose surfaces are free from gas, fat, oil, etc. followed by solidification.
CONSTITUTION: A metal such as Al, Mg, Ni, Cu, Si, Zn, Pb or Sn or an alloy thereof having no compatibility with graphite is degreased, washed, and melted in an Ar gas atmosphere, and the molten metal is maintained at a state practically free from gas, fat, oil, oxide, etc. Flake graphite particles of 50W1000μm size are reduction-treated in hydrogen gas at 500°C for 2hr. to make the surfaces free from gas, fat, oil, etc., and while agitating the molten metal of 850W1300°C at a revolution speed of 200rpm the graphite particles are added. The particles-added metal is then solidified by die casting under press. or casting in a mold. Thus, the particles do not float on the metal surface, and a metal or alloy casting with graphite particles uniformly dispersed is obtd.
