Abstract

PURPOSE: To utilize iron component in a waste liquid of acid washing effectively, and to reduce the disposal coat of the waste liquid, by a method wherein ferrous ions in the vitriolic acidic waste liquid formed by means of acid washing are oxidized to ferric ions, magnesium hydroxide is added, and the ferric ions are precipitated and removed as ferric hydroxide.
CONSTITUTION: Hydrogen peroxide is first added to a vitriolic acidic waste liquid, and ferrous ions in the waste liquid are oxidized to ferric ions. Vitriolic ions are dissolved into the liquor as magnesium sulfate, whose solubility to water is high, and ferric ions are precipitated as ferric hydroxide by neutralizing the liquid by adding magnesium hydroxide, and a solid and a liquid are separated. Thus, precipitates formed are the neutralized sludge of iron oxide, whose impurities are little, and can effectively be utilized for iron-manufacturing raw material, Indian red, etc., and cost required for discarding disposal can be reduced.
