Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve fuel control precision and reduce power consumption by using an actuator which uses an electrostrictive element whose dimensions vary with the impressed voltage, in place of an actuator which uses electromagnetic force.
CONSTITUTION: Electrostrictive element 100 consists of scores of electrostrictive element pellets 101 and electrodes 102, 102' placed between them and fastened by bolts 103 and nuts 104. By utilizing this electrostrictive element 100, for example, inside housing 201 are provided diaphragm 202, valve proper 203, spring 204, guide 205, O-ring 206 and seat 207 and thereby actuator 200 is formed. Here, by impressing alternating voltage of pulse form on electrodes 102, 102', valve 203 is opened and closed. By this, an actuator, with good response characteristics, low power consumption and small temperature rise, can be obtained.
