Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent thyristors from damage due to ignition scattering when an overvoltage is applied in the turn-off of the thyristors, by preventing the gate signal of a thyristor switch from being blocked when a load current is zero or almost zero.
CONSTITUTION: When an operation signal RUN is applied to a gate control circuit 9, gate signals G-1, G-2 are generated to supply AC power to a load 3. When the AC power is supplied to the load, a current level detector 8 produces a signal which indicates whether the load current I is in a prescribed level range. The gate signals G-1, G-2 are not blocked but continued until the time for more than detection level if the output IL of the current level detector 8 is a signal below the detection level when the operation signal is stopped.
