Abstract

PURPOSE: To selectively break a motor having a fault occurred therein by temporarily increasing the commutation capacity of an inveter when a detector for current variation is operated, which is provided in the output side of the invettr.
CONSTITUTION: If short circuit may be occurred in the interior of a motor 10 or in the terminal thereof, the short circuit current may be generated and it is supressed by ac reactor 19. On the other hand, the current increasing over a predetermined value is detected by a current variation detector circuit 18 of an inverter circuit 2 side and a signal is applied to a pulse distributor 13. When a gate signal is generated to extend the conduction time of thyristors 34 and 31 provided in a cummutation curcuit 3, because a capacitor 36 is charged over a time longer than normal, the voltage on the capacitor 36 is increased and the commutation limit is extended. Therefore, the inverter can be perfectly commutated. While restricting the current of a motor with ac reactor 19, a thermal relay 9 is operated to turn a switch 8 off
