Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a magnet described in the title which is excellent in heat-resistance, flux-resistance, and temperature charactristics, by heating and compression-molding of a powder mixt. of anisotropic intermetallic compounds of rare earth metals, consisting of rare earth metals and other metals, and superplastic metals at a suitable ratio. CONSTITUTION:Rare earth metals (R), e.g., Sm, Y, Ce, La, Nd, etc. are mixed with other metals (M), e.g., Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Mn, Ti, Zr, etc. to form mixt. of regulated composition in a mol ratio, e.g., RM5, RM7, RM8, R2M17. Then the mixt. is pulverized in a ball mill etc. to form a powder of an inter-rare-earth-metallic compound. A mixed powder consisting of the powder described above and powder of superplastic metal or alloy such as Zn-Al alloy is heated and shaped at a temp. 200-800 deg.C at which the mixt. exhibits superplasticity. Hereby the shaped item shows elongation not less than 100% and yields easily a magnet of high density, high performance.
