Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain SMC articles having improved strength, by hot-pressing SMC sheets with plate-or net-like insertions between the sheets to suppress the abnormal flow of the glass fiber in the sMC sheets.
CONSTITUTION: Plate-or met-like insertions are placed between SMC (sheet molding compound) sheets in layers and hot-pressed. Materials, which may not deteriorate the properties required for the molded article, e.g. wood, plywood, metal plates, plastic plates, reinforced paperboard, etc. may be cited as the insertions. The insertions are perferably placed between the sheets according to the method which was determined by the preliminany test. The method should facilitate smooth flow of glass fiber and prevent the phenomenon of random folding
