Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the unnecessary charges left on a photosensitive member by eeffecting simultaneously the restricted charging operation and the irradiation of a region of the photosensitive member which is supplied with charges by the restricted charging operation. CONSTITUTION:A photosensitive drum 1 is subjected to slit exposure at an esposure section 11 with the reflected light from an original carraige 4 and is simultaneoulsy charged by an AC charger 13. The drum 1 is then formed with an electrostatic latent image by means of a whole surface esposure lamp 14, and the image is visualized by a developer 15. An excess developing llliguid is sgueezed out of the drum 1 by means of a restriction charger 18, and the image is then transferred to tranfer paper 20 by means of a transfrt charger 25. In this instance, when the trailing end of the latent image formed by the slit esposure passes thrugh the charger 18, the operations of the developer 15 are stopped to light a lamp 32. And, when the trailing end of the image passes through a charger 25, the operations of the chargers 12, 18 and 25 are stopped to extinguish the lamp 32. By such exposure made simultaneously with the charging operation, it is possible to reduce the residual charges on the drum 1.
