Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable the history of the O2 utilizing speed of activated sludge to be continuously and readily measured by letting mixed solution containing activated sludge flow isolatedly from the outside air and measuring the reduction in the dissolved O2 quantity within the flow line.
CONSTITUTION: Both ends of a measuring pipe 3 interposed with a suction pump 2 are dipped in the mixed solution 1 composed of waste water and activated sludge contained in an aerating tank. As the pump 2 is operated, the mixed solution 1 flows into the pipe 3 and flows in the single direction in the stage of being isolated from air or O2. Dissolved oxygen meters 4a, 4b are interposed in the two positions of the pipe 3 and the dissolved O2 quantity of the same water mass of the mixed solution flowing in the pipe 3 is measured at the two positions. From the difference in these dissolved O2 quantities, the O2 utilization speed of the activated sludge is measured.
