CONSTITUTION: In a sewage treatment plant, the sludge interface level meter 31 for the final sedimentation basin 2 and the sludge densitometer 32 for measuring the sludge concentration of the sludge pit 3 are provided. And, the signals of the excess sludge flow meter 30, the level meter 31, the densitometer 32, and the state of the excess sludge drawing pumps P1, P2,...Pn(failure or others) are put in the arithemetic control unit through the signal lines 40, 42, 43, and 44. Then, from the input values, the sludge interface level in the sedimentation basin 2 and the daily average value of sludge concentration of the pit 3 are obtained, and from the daily average value and the excess sludge drawn actual value of that day, the excess sludge drawing amount target value for the next day is determined and an operation-start/stop signal is delivered to the pumps P1WPn through the line 44 so as to draw out excess sludge by dividing into the preset time.
