Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the resolving power for the screen as a whole without imparing the resolving power at the screen center part by providing the means which controls the beam dispersion angle in accordance with the deflecting angle of the electron beam and in coaction with the 3rd grid electrode between the 2nd and 3rd grid electrodes of the electronic gun.
CONSTITUTION: The 1st grid electrode 6 having the aperture of diameter D1 and 2nd grid electrode 7 having the aperture of diameter D2 are provided with a space between in front of cathode 5 forming the electronic gun. Then electrode 8 having the aperture of diameter D2' is provided with a space at the back of electrode 6 and 7 to control the dispersion angle, and furthermore 3rd grid electrode 9 having the aperture of diameter D3 is installed at the back of electrode 8. These electrodes are arrayed along radiation direction Z of the electron beam. In such constitution, if the voltage applied to electrode 8 is controlled, the angle is also changed for the beam passing through electrode 9 based on the dispersion angle of the beam. As a result, the deflecting defocus can be corrected sufficiently over the entire screen, thus enhancing the resolving power.
