Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to record video signals always at a proper exposure level and to control the exposure in various image pickup modes by controlling the video signal storage time of a solid image pickup element in accordance with the exposure.
CONSTITUTION: A solid image pickup element 2 is arranged in the vicinity of the focal plane of a focusing optical system 1, and the light reflected from a semiluscent mirror 5 is fed through a photoelectric converting element 6 to a photometric signal processing circuit 8 so that it is converted from the photometry to such signals as can preset the storage time of the element 2. The output is fed to a storage time control circuit 9 so that timing pulses, which are operative to control the proper optical quantity storage time of the element 2 to be determined by the photometry, are generated and fed to a synchronous signal generating circuit 10. In response to those pulses, the circuit 10 generates the pulses to be transferred to the tranfer gate of the element 2. The video signals read out of the element 2 are fed through a processing circuit 11 and a recording signal generating circuit 12 to a magnetic head 13.
