Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent peeling from substrates, crazing, deformation of substrates, etc. by constituting the transparent insulation layers to be applied on the cell substrates of the field effect type liquid crystal cell with the material of a coefficient of thermal expansion close to that of the substrates.
CONSTITUTION: The transparent insulation layers are formed by using the low melting point glass which fuses at temperatures below the deformation temperature of the substrates and is within about 10% of the difference between its coefficient of thermal expansion and the coefficient of thermal expansion of the substrates. For example, in the case of using soda glass of softening temperature; about 560 to 580°C, coefficient of thermal expansion; about (85 to 95) × 10-7/°C as the substrates, the low melting point glass as shown in Table 1 is used.
