Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the catalytic effect (acceleration of oxidation and exfoliation of slime) of KMnO4 on H2O2 in removal of slime with H2O2 in machinery or equipment of a water system by adding KMnO4 and a neutral salt to slow down decomposition of the H2O2.
CONSTITUTION: In removal of slime with H2O2 in machinery or equipment of a water syttem, e.g. cooler, condenser or piping, a neutral salt such as Na2SO4 or KNO3 is added in an amt. of 0.2W5, pref. 0.7W1.4% to the amt. of H2O2 together with KMnO4. By this method the amt. of insol. MnO2 formed can be reduced remarkably as compared to the theoretical amt. by the reaction of the H2O2 and KMnO4 in the presence of the neutral salt, and decomposition of the H2O2 is slowed down to prevent disappearance of the H2O2 in a short time.
