Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the removal of a jamming sheet, by disengaging a paper feed roller from its drive system in association with opening of a sheet conveying path when a sheet jams during passing through the paper feed roller. CONSTITUTION:When a pick-up roller feeds a sheet to a position where a paper feed roller 39 is located in a device body, the sheet is stopped in a registered condition. When a solenoid 40 is energized so that the engagement between a ratchet 41 and a ratchet wheel 34 is released, the rotation of a drive belt is transmitted to the paper feed roller 38 which is therefore rotated so as to feed the sheet. Upon removal of a jamming sheet, when a bottom door 42 is opened, a plunger part in the solenoid 40 is pressed by a release lever 43 linked to the door 42, overcoming the urging force of a spring, in order to press the ratchet 41 engaged with the release lever 43, and accordingly, the ratchet 41 is disengaged from the ratchet wheel 34.
