【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は、親水性繊維、例えばセ
ルロース繊維からつくられる吸収材に関し、かかる吸収
材は、使用者が使用時に接する面において粒状のヒドロ
ゲル化吸収性物質からなる非連続層を有する。
【０００２】
【従来の技術】使捨てタイプの吸収性商品、例えば幼児
用のおむつや大人用の失禁パッドや生理用品などは、よ
く知られており、全て身体からの液体や気体を吸収し保
持するための吸収材を備えている。
【０００３】かかる吸収材は、通常パッドとして知られ
ているもので、液体を迅速に吸収し、吸収した液体を内
部に分布させて外部に漏れるのを防止できるようなもの
とせねばならなず、またかかる吸収材は、使用時の通常
の圧力を加えた際に液体などを保持する良好な能力を有
せねばならない。
【０００４】針葉樹を原料とするセルロース繊維製の吸
収性パッドは、液体の吸収速度に関し満足のゆく特性を
示すのでかかる液体をパッド内部に効果的に分布させる
が、液体保持についてはあまり効果的ではなく、通常の
使用圧力で液体が逆流したり、吸収材の構造から漏れ出
たりする。
【０００５】この問題点を回避する１つの方法として、
パッド中の吸収性物質の分量を著しく増加させて、通常
の使用圧力での逆流や漏れを防止することがあるが、こ
の方法は、セルロースの強力な親水性特性やその吸収メ
カニズムのため、吸着性パッドの表面が場合により湿気
をおび、これにより使用者に対し湿った感じを与える。
【０００６】液体の逆流や漏れの問題点解決のための別
の試みは、ヒドロゲル化吸収性物質の粒子をセルロース
と混合して吸着材の吸収能力と保持能力を向上させるこ
とである。
【０００７】ヒドロゲル化物質は、通常、高吸収性ポリ
マーとして知られており、多量の液体、とくに水を吸収
して膨潤することができ、やや劣るが体内からの液体や
気体も同様に吸収、膨潤することができる。
【０００８】またヒドロゲル化物質は、中程度の圧力の
下でもかかる流体を保持できる特異的な特性を有し、こ
の特性により、ある時期において使捨て吸収性商品とし
ての用途が提案されている。
【０００９】一般に、高吸収性物質の親水性繊維への単
なる添加により、同じ量の親水性繊維単独で達成可能な
ものよりもより大きな吸収能力を示す通常重量のパッド
を製造することができる。その結果、高吸収性物質と少
量の親水性繊維を用いると、従来からの重量を有するパ
ッドと同じ吸収能力を有しかつより軽くしかもより薄い
パッドが可能となる。
【００１０】しかしながら、高吸収性物質の良好な吸収
力は、同等の吸収速度を達成することができなく、この
特性は、かかる物質を組み込んだ吸収性商品の性能に悪
影響を及ぼすのである。
【００１１】事実、高吸収性物質を用いると、当該分野
で「ゲル・ブロッキング」として知られている現象が生じ
うる。すなわち、高吸収性物質の粒子を水と接触させる
と、粒子の外面が液体を吸収して膨潤し、これにより、
液体の粒子内への通過が妨げられ、単に、液体が粒子の
未だ乾燥状態の中心部に、非常にゆっくりとした拡散メ
カニズムでさらに侵入しうるにすぎない。
【００１２】この現象のため、高吸収性物質は、大きな
吸収能力を発揮できるような完全な使用が妨げられてお
り、また、高吸収性物質を親水性繊維と均一に混合した
構造では、吸収速度の減少が伴い、その結果、漏れの機
会が大きくなる。
【００１３】したがって、これらの構造では液体の吸収
性パッド内への拡散速度が著しく減少する。
【００１４】最後に、高吸収性物質は、セルロース繊維
と比較して液体を確実に保持する利点を有しているが、
かかる物質をセルロース繊維と、単に、均一に混合した
だけでは、問題が生じるのである。
【００１５】高吸収性物質とセルロース繊維の混合物か
らなる吸着材構造は、多数開示されているが、例えば、
ヨーロッパ特許出願(ＥＰ-Ａ-１２２０４２号)では、前
記問題点の解決方法として非常に高密度の吸着材構造を
提案している。
【００１６】また、ヨーロッパ特許出願(ＥＰ-Ａ-２５
４４７６号)は、低密度域を吸収性パッドに配置させ
て、液体放出時にそれを直接吸収する旨、提案している
が、この区域は、パッド中の周囲の高密度域内への吸収
が必要な液体用の、一種の一時的な貯蔵用液溜めを構成
するものである。
【００１７】高吸収性物質の混合物中での使用に起因す
る液体逆流の問題点の解決法として、実質的に異なる方
法が、米国特許第３８８８２５６号において提案されて
いる。 この特許によれば、高吸収性物質のみを従来か
らのパッドの上面に配置させているが、そこで用いられ
る量は、当該粒子が吸収・膨潤するにつれてそれらが相
互に浸透して通常の使用条件下での逆流を防止しうる連
続層を形成するような、量である。しかしながら、この
連続層は、その後に使用者が放出しうる付加的な量の液
体についての吸収を妨害する。
【００１８】前記問題点の解決法は、本件出願人のヨー
ロッパ特許出願(ＥＰ-Ａ-３７４１０５号)において提案
されている。ここでは、通常の親水性セルロース繊維か
らなる吸収材は、使用者の身体と接する上面においてヒ
ドロゲル化吸収性物質の非連続層を有し、これにより湿
潤した場合でも、液体の吸収性パッドへの付加的な浸透
を妨害するような連続的浸透層を形成することはない。
【００１９】別法として、本件出願人のヨーロッパ特許
出願(ＥＰ-Ａ-３８８３７２号)の提案によれば、吸収性
パッドの側方端部に沿って、吸収性物質を混合物として
かまたはその上面においてのいずれかの方法により、高
濃度で分布させ、液体の側方からの漏れを減少させてい
る。
【００２０】前記した解決法は、改善された乾いた肌ざ
わりがとくに使用者の性別に応じた種々の変形例により
得られる点で有効ではあるが、しかしながら、混合物中
の高吸収性物質の使用に伴う前記した不利な点を生じさ
せることなく良好な吸収・保持能力(これにより、好適
にも親水性繊維の量を減少させてより薄くかつより軽い
パッドを得ることができる)を利用できるような吸収材
の構造を提供できない点で、問題がある。

【発明の課題および概要】本発明の目的は、使捨て吸収
性商品に使用される吸収材の吸収および保持能力を改善
することである。
【００２２】本発明によれば、かかる目的は、前記請求
項で特定した特徴を有する吸収材により達成することが
できる。
【００２３】本発明の別の目的は、当該吸収材を含む吸
収性商品を提供することである。要約すると、本発明
は、改善された吸収材であって、その長手軸方向の前端
および後端における２つの区域を備え、この区域におい
てヒドロゲル化吸収性物質を、親水性繊維との混合物中
に分布させることを特徴とする。

【具体例】本発明の付加的な特徴および利点は、添付の
図面を参照しながら、具体例についての以下の説明によ
り、明らかにするが、本発明は、かかる具体例に限定さ
れるものではない。
【００２５】図１は、本発明の吸収材を用いる使捨てお
むつを示す平面図、図２は、図１のII-IIライン(長手軸
ＡＡ')に沿ったおむつの断面図、図３は、図１の吸収材
のみを示す平面図、図４は、図３の吸収材における混合
物中の高吸収性物質の実際の分布を示すグラフおよび図
５は、所定量の液体を吸収した図１の吸収材のＡＡ'軸
に沿った断面図である。
【００２６】本発明の吸収材を、使捨て吸収性商品にお
ける使用に関して説明する。これらの商品は、使用者が
身体に直接装着して身体からの液体や気体を吸収し、そ
の後、１回の使用で廃棄する。
【００２７】図１に示した使捨ておむつは、本発明の吸
収性商品の好適な具体的を示すが、本発明は、他の使捨
て吸収性商品、例えば失禁用パッドや生理用品などにも
適用することができる。
【００２８】図１は、おむつ１の形態をより明確に示す
べく、構造のある種の部分を省略し拡大した形態のおむ
つ１を示す平面図であり、とくに、使用者が直接接触す
る側のおむつ１部分を示す。
【００２９】図１において、２つの端部領域、すなわち
前端域２および後端域３を示し、これらは使用時に使用
者のウエスト周囲に配置される。これら域の間の中央域
４は、赤ちゃんの股部分に位置する。また、長手軸Ａ
Ａ'および横手軸ＢＢ'を図１に示す。
【００３０】おむつ１は、不織布の上層５を備え、これ
は、液体の浸透が可能であり、また使用者の皮膚に直接
接触させることを意図するものである。層６の薄様紙な
どの薄様物は、好ましくは湿潤強化タイプもので、不織
布５のすぐ下に置かれる。本発明の吸収材７は、さらに
下方に図示している。第２層８の薄様物は、好ましくは
湿潤強化タイプのものである。さらに、おむつ１は不浸
透性プラスチックシート９を備える。エラストマー部材
１０は、吸収材７の両側に設けられ、使用の際に使用者
の足の周囲をシールするのに用いられる。使用者のウエ
ストの周囲におむつ１を固定するために通常使用される
１またはそれ以上の接着剤タブ１１は、後端域３上に見
られる。
【００３１】不織布５のシートおよびプラスチックシー
ト９は、同じ形状と寸法を有し、おむつ１全体の輪郭１
２と対応する一方、２つの層６,８の薄様物は、それら
の間の吸収材７と同様な形状をなす。
【００３２】図示した形状において、吸収材７は、通常
の砂時計の形状をなし、それ自体を示した図３に見られ
るものが好ましい。この図３は主要部分１２を示し、こ
れは、一般に高吸収性物質の分布により影響を受ける共
に、当該吸収材と同じ長さを有し、かつパッドの前端２
と後端３において長手軸ＡＡ'を中心とする２つの区域
１３,１４を備える。
【００３３】主要部分１２は、必然的に図示した具体例
のようなパッドの上面１６全体を含まず、また、より大
きいかまたはより小さいパッドのいわゆる耳部分１７も
含まない。したがって、パッド主要部分１２の長手軸エ
ッジ１５は、少なくとも４つの端部域１７においてパッ
ドの長手軸エッジ１５'と一致しない。なぜなら、長手
軸エッジ１５は、エッジ１５'の内方に位置しているか
らである。
【００３４】好ましい形態では、２つの端部域１３,１
４は、パッド主要部分１２のエッジの完全に内側に位置
し、その幅は、パッド主要部分１２の幅と小さいかまた
は同じであるが、いずれの場合も、中央域４に対応する
パッドの最小の幅よりもより小さくしてはならない。す
なわち、域１３,１４は、共に同じ長さであってよい
が、好ましくは前部域１３は後部域１４よりも長い。吸
収材７は、親水性繊維１８、例えば針葉樹を原料とする
セルロース繊維および、ヒドロゲル化吸収性物質の粒子
１９からつくられる。
【００３５】図２は、吸収材７における高吸収性物質・
粒子の分布状態および前端域１３および後端域１４にお
ける当該粒子のセルロース繊維との混合状態を示す。ヒ
ドロゲル化吸収性物質の粒子は、好ましくは吸収材７の
表面１６上に分布し、その表面分布は、パッドの主要部
分１２を包含し、かつ非連続的である。
【００３６】好適なヒドロゲル化吸収性物質は、無機お
よび有機物質で、例えば当該分野でよく知られた架橋性
ポリマーである。
【００３７】好ましくは、吸収材が、２つの端部域１
３,１４における混合物および主要部分１２の表面の両
方おいて分布した高吸収性物質を有するとき、同じタイ
プの高吸収性物質を当該混合物と表面分布に使用でき
る、好ましくは、混合物中の高吸収性物質は、表面分布
の高吸収性物質よりもより速い吸収速度を特徴とする。
【００３８】粒子１９の平均粒径、すなわち個々の粒子
の最小寸法の重み付き平均は、１００〜８００ミクロ
ン、好ましくは３００〜６００ミクロンとすることがで
きる。
【００３９】パッド主要部分１２上の高吸収性粒子１９
の表面分布は、存在する場合、非連続的状態とせねばな
らない。すなわち、当該粒子は、液体の吸収前に実質的
に相互に分離し、かつ吸収に起因する膨潤後でもかかる
状態を保持していることを保証するような非連続状態で
あるか、または膨潤時にパッド表面で連続層を形成しな
いような割合で分布せねばならない。
【００４０】一般に、かかる結果は、好適な粒子１９の
表面分布が濃度範囲５〜７０g／m2、好ましくは１０〜
６０g／m2であるときに達成することができる。
【００４１】本発明の吸収材７の総体的な吸収力を増加
させるべく、パッド主要部分１２の端部域１３,１４
は、親水性繊維との混合物中に分布したヒドロゲル化吸
収性物質の存在を特徴とするものである。これは、とく
に、吸収材が薄層タイプであって繊維単独から形成する
パッドに使用されるよりもより少量の親水性繊維を含む
場合に、重要である。
【００４２】親水性繊維と単に混合される高吸収性物質
の適当な量を選択することにより、もっぱら多量のヒド
ロゲル化繊維からつくられるパッドと理論的に同等の吸
収力を示しかつより軽量なパッドを得ることができ、ま
た、ゲル・ブロッキング現象に関連した前記問題点を回
避するには、高吸収性物質を、単独で、パッドの前端域
１３および後端域１４における混合物中に存在させる。
【００４３】図３は、この分布による好適な形態を示
す。図３において、パッド７主要部分１２と、２つの直
角四辺形の前端域１３および後端域１４が示されるが、
これら端部は、パッド７の長手軸の端部において位置
し、かかる両端部の幅は、主要部分１２の長手軸端部の
幅と同じである。また、前端域１３は、長手軸ＡＡ'に
沿って測定すると、好ましくは後端域１４よりもより長
い。
【００４４】端部域１３,１４における高吸収性物質粒
子および親水性繊維の量は、当該端部域１３,１４にお
いて構成された吸収材７に対し、好ましくは重量％で示
すことができる。
【００４５】一般に、高吸収性物質の濃度は、前端域１
３および後端域１４において異なるものとでき、また、
長手軸および横手軸方向に変化させることもできるが、
好適な具体例では、図４のグラフに示すごとく両域にお
いて同じ濃度であって、域全体に均一に分布させる。図
４は、混合物中高吸収性物質の濃度Ｃの変化を吸収材中
の重量％として、域１３の外方エッジ(座標の原点)から
出発して長手軸ＡＡ'に沿って示す。
【００４６】かかるグラフは、高吸収性物質が端部域１
３,１４における混合物中にのみ存在することを示す。
【００４７】別の態様として、各端部域１３,１４の混
合物中高吸収性物質の濃度は、最大値で出発し、吸収材
の中心に向かって徐々に減少してゼロになるが、横断方
向では、均一である。
【００４８】域１３,１４は、混合物中に分布した高吸
収性物質を、５〜７０重量％、好ましくは２０〜５０重
量％で、含有する。
【００４９】端部域の各長さは、パッド全長の５〜３０
％であってよく、好ましくは、前端域１３の長さは、パ
ッド全長の１５〜２０％である一方、後端域１４の長さ
は１０〜１５％である。
【００５０】驚くべきことに、本発明者らによれば、パ
ッド端部域１３,１４の混合物中高吸収性物質を上記し
た濃度範囲で存在させると、使用時の著しい利点が得ら
れことが判明し、とくに、ヒドロゲル化繊維を均一に混
合した高吸収性物質の使用に伴う制限や不利な点を示す
ことなく、軽量で薄層の吸収材において、流体の良好な
分布につながる良好な吸収能力と良好な保持能力が得ら
れることが、判明した。
【００５１】高吸収性物質のかかる分布は、混合物中高
吸収性物質を含む吸収材の吸収力および分布能力、とく
にゲル・ブロッキング現象に関し、従来からの技術的効
果とは明確に異なっているものである。
【００５２】この現象は、未だ完全には理解されていな
いが、実際には、当該現象は、前記のごとく流体のヒド
ロゲル化物質含有・パッド内へのゆっくりとした拡散速
度に起因するのであろう。
【００５３】本発明のパッドが示す改善された挙動は、
混合物中の高吸収性物質を、とくに吸収材の前端域１３
および後端域１４の両方に配置させたことに起因するも
のである。
【００５４】図５に示すごとく、液体は徐々にパッド中
央域に入るが、この中央域には、液体の拡散を妨害しそ
の結果ゲル・ブロッキング現象を引き起こしうる高吸収
性物質が存在しない。そのため、液体は、毛細管作用に
より吸収材の周辺域の方向、とくに混合物中高吸収性物
質の存在を特徴とする前端域１３および後端域１４の方
向に急速に移動することができる。
【００５５】また、パッド中央域付近の受容地点から端
部域１３,１４へ液体を毛細管作用により移動させる、
親水性繊維の能力も、吸収材の密度が僅かに高ければ、
改善され、これにより、パッドの厚さをさらに減少させ
る。
【００５６】端部域１３,１４の主要な特徴は、高吸収
性物質の存在に起因するその総体的な吸収力および保持
能力であるが、他方、液体の輸送能力については、当該
域が吸収材の端部であるため、重要性が低い。
【００５７】したがって、端部域において生じうる限定
的なゲル・ブロッキングは、本発明の吸収材の品質に悪
影響を与えないどころか、逆に、陽性的効果が生じう
る。なぜなら、かかるゲル・ブロッキングが、２つの端
部域で液体を保持する傾向を示し、これにより、事実上
吸収した液体の貯蔵域類似の挙動を示すからである。
【００５８】液体は、吸収材中に入れば、混合物中に分
布した高吸収性物質により、好適にもパッドの２つの域
１３,１４の方向に移動し、そこで閉じ込められる傾向
を示す。端部域を備えるパッドの中央域は、使用時に液
体流の受容を意図する部分であるが、かかる中央域は、
飽和することがなく、したがって良好な分布能力を残し
たまま保持することができ、これは、とくに液体のその
後の放出の際に有用である。
【００５９】次に、本発明の吸収材を備えるおむつの具
体例を用いて、本発明をさらに詳しく説明するが、これ
に限定されるものではない。
【００６０】液体浸透性の上層は、結合剤を用いないス
パン・ボンディド・タイプの不織布であって、これは、
疎水性ポリプロピレン繊維からなり、厚さ約０.１８０m
mで重量約２３.００g／m2である。
【００６１】不織布と吸収材の間の中間層および吸収材
と下層プラスチック・シートの間の中間層は、湿潤強化
薄様物(厚さ約０.０８０mmおよび重量約１８.００ｇ／m
2)からつくられ、プラスチック・シートは、不浸透性の
ポリエチレン・フィルムで、厚さ約０.０２５mmで重量
約２４.３０g／m2である。
【００６２】砂時計形の吸収材は、平均密度約１０cm3
／ｇのセルロース繊維からなり、パッドは、前端域およ
び後端域が長さ４５５mmで幅２９０mmで、中央域の幅が
１３５mmである。セルロース繊維の全重量は、２８gで
ある。
【００６３】高吸収性物質を分布させたパッドの主要部
分も同様に、砂時計形状をなし、パッドと同じ長さを有
する。主要部分は、前端域および後端域が幅２１０mmで
ある一方、中央域は、パッドの対応域と同じ幅である。
【００６４】混合物中に分布させた高吸収性物質を含む
２つの端部域は、前端域では幅が２１０mmで長さ７０mm
であって、後端域では長さ５０mmである。
【００６５】高吸収性物質は、粒状のフェイバー・サッ
ド(Ｆavor Ｓad)９２２〔ケミシェ・ファブリック・ス
トックハウゼン社製、平均粒径３００〜６００ミクロ
ン〕であり、２つの端部域では、高吸収性物質は混合物

合物中の分布と同様に、高吸収性物質は主要部分の表面
全体にわたり、濃度約３０g／m2で拡散されている。

・保持力の両方の能力、とくに液体の内部移動能力の点
で、良好に実施することができた。

明の原理および本発明の精神から逸脱しない限り、広範

Claims (9)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 親水性繊維からなる吸収材であって、そ
    の前端および後端の各々に、ヒドロゲル化吸収性物質
    が、上記親水性繊維との混合物として存在する区域を備
    えていることを特徴とする吸収材。
  2. 【請求項２】 前端域および後端域における親水性繊維
    との混合物中に分布させたヒドロゲル化吸収性物質の濃
    度が、約５〜約７０重量％、好ましくは約２０〜約５０
    重量％である請求項１記載の吸収材。
  3. 【請求項３】 前端域および後端域の各々が、当該吸収
    材の中央域に対応する当該吸収材の最小の幅と少なくと
    も等しい幅を有し、その長さが当該吸収材の約５〜約３
    ０％である請求項１または３記載の吸収材。
  4. 【請求項４】 前端域の長さが、当該吸収材全長の約１
    ５〜約２０％で、後端域の長さが、当該吸収材全長の約
    １０〜約１５％である請求項３記載の吸収材。
  5. 【請求項５】 使用者との接触が意図される上面が、約
    ５〜約７０g／m2、好ましくは約１０〜約６０g／m2の濃
    度で分布されたヒドロゲル吸収性物質の非連続層を有す
    る前記請求項の１つに記載の吸収材。
  6. 【請求項６】 ヒドロゲル化吸収性物質が、好ましくは
    ポリアクリレートである前記請求項の１つに記載の吸収
    材。
  7. 【請求項７】 ヒドロゲル化吸収性物質が、平均粒径約
    １００〜約８００ミクロン、好ましくは約３００〜６０
    ０ミクロンの粒子形状である前記請求項の１つに記載の
    吸収材。
  8. 【請求項８】 不浸透性の下層、液体浸透性の上層、お
    よび下層と上層の間の吸収材を備える吸収性商品であっ
    て、上記吸収材が前記請求項の１つに記載の吸収材であ
    る吸収性商品。
  9. 【請求項９】 赤ん坊の使捨ておむつの形態である請求
    項８記載の吸収性商品。
