(57)【要約】 【目的】 現状のままの技術でスポット径をあたかも小
さくし、従来、読み取れなかった高密度記録された記録
ピット情報の読取りを可能にした光記録媒体を提供す
る。 【構成】 記録膜に読出光又は記録光が入射する手前の
位置に光シャッタ層を設け、該光シャッタ層は、読出光
が照射される前は該光を透過しない発色状態にあり、読
出光の照射により照射部分の中央部分が温度上昇すると
ともに部分的に消色して光透過性になる物質を主成分と
して含有するように構成した。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【0001】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は、光透過性の基板の上に
記録膜を有する書込み可能な光記録媒体、特に高密度記
録化が向上された光記録媒体に関する。
【0002】
【従来の技術】従来、いわゆる書込み可能な光記録媒体
に関しては、記憶容量を向上させるために、高密度記録
可能な種々の媒体構成が試みられたり、提案がなされた
りしている。
【0003】例えば従来の光記録ディスクにおいて、
ピットとピットの距離を詰めたり、トラックピッチ間を
詰める方法や、例えば、光と電気等の多数の刺激に個
々に応答する物質を記録物質に用いたりする方法や、
基板上に数種の色素膜を順次積層した、いわゆる波長多
重光記録媒体や、格段の高密度記録が可能であるとさ
れて注目されている固体メモリとしてのPHB(Photo
Chemical Burning)等のアプローチがなされている。
【0004】しかしながら、上記〜の方法は現技術
レベルでは早急に実現できる可能は少なく、上記の方
法のみが既存技術の延長でかつ実現可能である。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】しかしながら、上記
の方法では、ピットとピットの距離を詰め、トラックピ
ッチ間を詰めた状態での記録(書込み)はできるもの
の、現行の読出し光のスポット径では読取りが出来ない
という問題がある。すなわち、記録(書込み)は光ピー
ク強度と記録膜の感度との関係より、現行の記録光のス
ポット径で、該スポット径よりも小さい径の記録ピット
の形成が可能となるが、この記録ピットをクロストーク
なく読み取るには現行の読み取り光のスポット径をさら
に小さくしなけれならない。スポット径(D)は、D=
λ(波長)/NA(レンズの開口比)で表わされ、スポ
ット径(D)を小さくするためには、NA値を大きく
し、λを小さくする必要がある。NA値を大きくするた
めには開口半角を大きくとる必要があるが、レンズと記
録媒体とのワーキングディスタンスをある程度とる必要
があり、NA値を現行より大きく取ることは困難であ
る。また、SHG,THG等の開発に伴い、λの短波長
化も理論的には可能であるが実用化までには至っていな
い。
【0006】このような実情のもと、本発明は創案され
たものであり、その目的は、現状のままの技術でスポッ
ト径をあたかも小さくし、従来、読み取れなかった高密
度記録された記録ピット情報の読取りを可能にした光記
録媒体を提供することにある。

【課題を解決するための手段】上記課題を解決するため
本発明の光記録媒体は、基板の上に記録膜を有する光記
録媒体において、該記録膜に読出光又は記録光が入射す
る手前の位置に光シャッタ層を設け、該光シャッタ層
は、読出光が照射される前は該光を透過しない発色状態
にあり、読出光の照射により照射部分の中央部分が温度
上昇するとともに部分的に消色して光透過性になる物質
を主成分として含有するように構成した。

【作用】本発明の光記録媒体に読出光のスポット照射が
行われると、光シャッタ層のスポット照射部分の、特に
光エネルギーの強い中央部分が局部的に温度上昇し、読
出光のスポット径以下の径の部分が消色して、この消色
部分にのみ読出光が通過するようになる。

【実施例】本発明の書込み可能な光記録媒体を図1およ
び図2に基づいて説明する。図1は本発明の光記録媒体
の一部を切り欠いた概略斜視図であり、図2は図1の切
欠部A部の部分拡大断面図である。
【0010】本発明の光記録媒体1は、基板11の上に
光シャッタ層12を有し、この光シャッタ層12の上に
記録膜13を有し、この記録膜13の上に光反射層14
を有する。
【0011】基板11は、光透過の特性を有するディス
ク状基板であり、通常、記録膜が形成される側の面には
トラッキング用のグルーブが形成されている。この基板
11は、生産性向上の観点から、いわゆる射出成形樹脂
基板を用いることが好ましく、このものは、例えば、ポ
リカーボネート樹脂(PC)、ポリメタクリル酸メチル
樹脂(PMMA)等の透明材料から形成される。このよ
うな基板11の厚さは1.0〜1.5mm程度とされる。
【0012】このような基板11の上には、光シャッタ
層12が形成される。この光シャッタ層12には、シャ
ッタ特性を有する物質が主成分として含有される。この
物質は通常の状態で、読出光又は記録光を透過させない
発色状態にあり、一定の温度上昇に伴って消色して光透
過性の状態になる物質である。従って、読出光のスポッ
ト照射が行われると、スポット照射部分の、特に光エネ
ルギーの強い中央部分が局部的に温度上昇し、読出光の
スポット径以下の径の部分が消色して、この消色部分に
のみ読出光が通過するようになる。シャッタ特性を有す
る具体的な物質としては、スピロピラン、スピロナフト
オキサジン、フルギドもしくはジアリールエテン系の各
化合物またはラクトン系、フルオラン系物質などが挙げ
られる。光シャッタ層12には、適当なバインダを含有
させてもよい。このように形成される光シャッタ層12
の厚さは、光を不透過せしめるに十分な値、具体的には
0.02〜1μm程度である。
【0013】このような光シャッタ層12の上には記録
膜13が成膜される。この記録膜13には、例えば、シ
アニン系色素、フタロシアニン系色素等の有機色素が用
いられる。有機色素を含有する記録膜12は、例えばス
ピンコート法等の常用手段により塗設される。塗設され
る記録膜の厚さは20〜3000nm程度である。な
お、塗布に用いる溶媒としては、公知の種々のものが用
いられ、例えば、ジアセトンアルコール、エチルセロソ
ルブ、メチルセロソルブ、イソホロン、メタノール、テ
トラフルオロプロパノール、ジクロロエタン等が挙げら
れる。
【0014】なお、記録膜13は、その他公知の種々の
光記録可能な材質、例えばピット形成により記録される
Te系の無機材料、As−Te−Ge系,Sn−Te−
Se系,TeOx 系,Sb2 Se3 ,Bi2 Te3 等の
相変化を利用した記録材料等が用いられ得る。
【0015】このような記録膜13の上には、光反射層
14が設けられる。光反射層14はAu、Ag、Cu、
Al等の金属から構成され、このものは真空蒸着、スパ
ッタリング、イオンプレーティング等の各種真空成膜法
で成膜される。このような光反射層14の厚さは、0.
02〜2.0μm程度とされる。
【0016】なお、図3に示されるごとく、光反射層1
4に変えて、保護層15を設けた構成としてもよい。保
護層15は、一般に、紫外線硬化性樹脂をスピンコート
して塗設した後、紫外線を照射し、塗膜を硬化させて形
成する。その他、エポキシ樹脂、アクリル樹脂、シリコ
ーン樹脂、ウレタン樹脂等が保護層15の材質として用
いられる。このような保護層15の厚さは、通常、1〜
10μm程度である。
【0017】なお、前記記録膜13と光反射層14の間
には、光吸収、光反射効率を上げるための中間層を設け
てもよい。また、いわゆる両面記録可能なエアーサンド
イッチ構造としてもよい。さらに、本発明の光シャッタ
層は、通常のいわゆるCD、LDなどのような書き込み
可能な記録膜を有しない媒体に応用してもよい。
【0018】以下、具体的実験例を示して本発明をさら
に詳細に説明する。実験例 本発明サンプルの作製 予め、記録としてのプリピットが射出成形によって形成
されている直径120mm、厚さ1.2mmのCD用ポリカ
ーボネート基板11を用いた。なお、ピット形成に際し
て、ピットとピットの距離を詰め、従来のものに比べて
4倍の高密度記録とした。このような基板11の上(ピ
ット形成側)に光シャッタ層12をスピンコート法で形
成した。
【0019】光シャッタ層12は、下記構造式[1]お
よび[2]で示される物質を1:1の割合で混合して形
成した。

【化2】 このように形成された光シャッタ層12の波長と透過率
との関係が図4に示される。この図に示されるように通
常、使用されるレーザの波長780〜830nm付近で
は、消色して80%以上の透過率を有することがわか
る。
【0022】ついで、この光シャッタ層12の上に、A
uからなる光反射層を真空蒸着法で1000Å厚さに設
層し、本発明のサンプルを作製した。比較サンプルの作製 光シャッタ層12を設けなかった以外は上記本発明サン
プルと同様にして比較サンプルを作製した。
【0023】これら両サンプルについて、従来の方法と
同様の方法で実際に再生したところ(再生波長:780
nm,再生出力:0.5mW)本発明サンプルについて
はクロストークなく読出しし得ることが確認出来たが、
比較サンプルについては、クロストークが発生し読出し
出来なかった。

【発明の効果】上記の結果より本発明の効果は明らかで
ある。すなわち、本発明の光記録媒体は記録膜に読出光
又は記録光が入射する手前の位置に光シャッタ層を設
け、該光シャッタ層は、読出光が照射される前は該光を
透過しない発色状態にあり、読出光の照射により照射部
分の中央部分が温度上昇するとともに部分的に消色して
光透過性になる物質を主成分として含有するので、従
来、読み取れなかった高密度記録された記録ピット情報
の読取りが可能になった。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項1】 基板の上に記録膜を有する光記録媒体に
    おいて、 該記録膜に読出光又は記録光が入射する手前の位置に光
    シャッタ層を設け、 該光シャッタ層は、読出光が照射される前は該光を透過
    しない発色状態にあり、読出光の照射により照射部分の
    中央部分が温度上昇するとともに部分的に消色して光透
    過性になる物質を主成分として含有することを特徴とす
    る光記録媒体。
  2. 【請求項2】 前記サーモクロミズム物質は、スピロピ
    ラン、スピロナフトオキサジン、フルギドもしくはジア
    リールエテン骨格を有するフォトサーモクロミズム物質
    またはラクトン系、フルオラン系のケミサーモロクミズ
    ム物質である請求項1記載の光記録媒体。
