Abstract

PURPOSE:To get rid of any hindrance even if trace misty or fine-grainy material is discharged out of a gas generator by attaching a flexible bag, housing a part or all of discharged gas to the outside of a bag ground fabric as an auxiliary bag. CONSTITUTION:A gas generator 2 is covered with a bag 1 of its outer circumference while it is attached to the center of a steering wheel 6, and an auxiliary bag 3 is connected to a vent hole 4 of the bag 1 for installation. When a gas generating agent is burned, generated gas inclusive of a misty or fine-grainy combustion product flows into the bag 1 by way of a filter, unfolding the bag quickly. At this time, gas in the bag is sealed up in each inner part of the bag 1 and the auxiliary bag 3, and it will in no case flow into the car inside. Thus, the filter in the gas generator can be made compact in size and lighter in weight and, in turn, the whole gas generator can be made into miniaturization and lightweightiness in addition.

[Prior Art] As is well known, an airbag type occupant protection device has a capacity of 40 to 60 liters for the driver's seat, and 1 liter for the passenger seat.
A gas generator is built into the base fabric of a flexible bag with a capacity of 50 to 180 liters, and in the event of a collision with a vehicle, etc., the gas generating agent in the gas generator is instantly released in response to the sensed impact. The bag is ignited and burned, and the gas generated causes the bag to expand and expand, and the expanded bag base fabric restrains and protects the occupant. In this airbag, the bag base fabric is completely inflated and deployed within 30 milliseconds after the collision, and then a portion of the internal gas is released into the bottom of the airbag by pressurization caused by the restrained occupant bending forward. Exhaust gas is continuously discharged into the vehicle from a plurality of circular exhaust holes (hereinafter referred to as vent holes) with an inner diameter of 20 to 60 mm in a direction that does not hit the human body, thereby releasing the expanded air to the occupants. This is designed to prevent injuries caused by the rebound of the bag and the occurrence of high impact forces due to energy absorption. Since the gas generator built into the airbag inflates the bag extremely rapidly, a gas generating agent in the form of pellets, discs, etc. is usually used. Furthermore, in order to shorten the combustion time, the combustion pressure of the gas generator is increased and used, and therefore mist-like or particulate matter is usually discharged along with the combustion gas. In order to prevent these substances from coming out of the gas generator, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 51-72030,
As seen in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 55-110642, etc., a gas flow path within a gas generator is provided with multiple layers of wire mesh or a filtering device made of porous material. This filtration device is very bulky, heavy, and expensive. However, recently, there have been strong demands from users to reduce the size, weight, and cost of gas generators.

[Problems to be Solved by the Invention] In order to meet this demand, the present invention aims to solve the problem of reducing the size and weight of a filtration device in a gas generator, resulting in insufficient filtration and a very small amount of mist or fine particles. It is an object of the present invention to provide an airbag type occupant protection device that does not cause any problem even if substances are discharged outside a gas generator.

[Means for Solving the Problems] As a result of extensive research into improving airbag-type occupant protection devices, the inventors of the present invention have discovered that the vent hole of the airbag or other vent hole that is connected to the outside of the vent hole through which the released gas passes. An auxiliary bag that is flexible and has sufficient capacity (30% or less of the total amount of gas normally generated) to accommodate the gas exhausted until the airbag finishes absorbing the impact force caused by the collision of the occupant. By using one or more adhesives or threads to airtightly attach the auxiliary bag to a position that will not obstruct the expansion of the auxiliary bag when the airbag is inflated and deployed, the airbag function can be achieved without releasing generated gas into the vehicle. This discovery led to the present invention.

That is, the present invention provides an airbag having a structure in which the bag base fabric absorbs the impact force of the human body by once inflating with gas generated from a built-in gas generator and then releasing a part of the gas. This invention relates to an airbag-type occupant protection device characterized in that at least one flexible bag is attached to the outside as an auxiliary bag to accommodate part or all of the released gas.

[0008] When a car collides and an ignition signal is sent to the ignition device, the ignition device ignites, the flame starts combustion of the gas generating agent, and the generated gas containing combustion products in the form of mist or particulates is filtered. After passing through the device and being filtered, it flows into the bag 1, and the bag 1 is rapidly inflated and deployed as shown in FIG. At this time, the auxiliary bag 3 has a low internal pressure at this stage and has a vent hole 4, so
As shown in FIG. 2, it remains almost folded. In the next step, when the human body crushes the unfolded bag 1 as shown in FIG. 3, the gas pressure inside the bag increases, and the gas flows into the auxiliary bag 3 through the vent hole 4. Expand as shown. At this time, the bag 1 contracts and suppresses an increase in acceleration applied to the human body. Moreover, at this time, the gas inside the bag is sealed inside the bag 1 and the auxiliary bag 3, so it will not leak into the vehicle.
