Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 ［産業上の利用分野］ 本発明は、表示内容については同一仕様で、ただ外部回
路との接続用電極についてのみ相異なる複数の仕様が存
在する場合に、１種類の素子で対応できるようにした液
晶表示素子に関する。
［従来の技術］ 従来は、液晶表示素子に対して、たとえ１表示内容につ
いては同一仕様であっても、外部回路との接続用電極に
ついての仕様が異なっている場合には、いちいち別に、
専用の液晶表示素子を設計、製作して対応して来た（実
公昭５５−５０７０７号公報など）。
しかし、このようにすると、特定仕様の液晶表示素子の
生産数、量が少ない場合などには、不経済である。
また、外部接続端子から、接触、断線検査を行うとき、
そのために導電被膜を傷つけてしまうことがあるなど１
品質管理上の問題も生じていた。
［発明が解決しようとする課題］ 本発明は、上記のような従来問題になっていた事態を解
決して、表示内容については同一仕様で、ただ外部回路
との接続用電極（製造時の品質管理のための検査用を含
めて）についてのみ複数の相異なる仕様が存在するよう
な場合に、１種類の素子を準備するだけで対応できるよ
うにした液晶表示素子を提供することを目的とする。
Ｃ課題を解決するための手段］ 上記目的を達成するために本発明においては、中間に液
晶を挾んで対向配置されたガラス基板の少なくとも一方
を液晶封止部の外方へ張り出させ。
その辺に沿ってセル内部の透明導電膜よりなる液晶表示
用電極に電圧を供給するための、外部回路との接続用電
極端子を配列した液晶表示素子において、前記外部回路
との接続用電極端子の、形状、寸法、ピッチ等仕様の異
なる複数種類のものを、仕様ごとに、それぞれ、基板の
辺に平行な複数列に配列することにした。
［作用］ 上記のような手段をとれば、ある仕様の端子列は所謂ゼ
ブラゴムを介して外部回路との接続に用い、他の端子列
は熱圧着によって他の外部回路との接続に用いたり、又
は、最外側の端子列を複数の品種に対して統一して品質
管理のための接触検査や断線検査に用いて高い信頼性の
確保に努め、実際の使用時には、上記品質管理用検査な
どには使用しなかった無傷の内側の端子列を外部回路と
の接続に用いることもできる６勿論、外部回路との接続
端子仕様だけが異なって、表示部の仕様が同一な複数種
類の液晶表示素子の生産数量がそれぞれ余り多くないよ
うな時に、本発明により生産品種を一種類だけに絞って
生産効率を高めることも出来る。
［実施例］ 第１図は本発明一実施例の外部接続端子部の拡大平面図
である。実施例液晶表示素子は上側基板１と下側基板２
を有し、これらの基板の対向面に形成された上側透明電
極、下側透明電極は、第１図中に示す外部下側引出接続
端子３に素子内部で接続されており、液晶表示素子は外
部下側引出接続端子３を介して外部回路に接続される。
この外部下側引出接続端子３は、この実施例では、上に
配向膜を形成してない透明導電膜で形成されており、端
子ピッチ８部４と端子ピッチ５部５を有する０例えば、
端子ピッチ８部４は、ゼブラゴムによる外部回路との接
続に用い、端子ピッチ５部５は熱圧着による外部回路と
の接続に使用する。
また、端子ピッチ５部５の端子ピッチは複数種類の液晶
表示素子に対して統一しておいて、内部での品質管理用
の接触検査、断線検査に用い、端子ピッチ８部４を実際
使用時に外部回路との接続に使用する。このようにする
と、外部引出接続端子まで透明導電膜で形成したような
場合に、品質管理用検査のための端子は実使用時の端子
よりも外側に設けであるから１品管用検査の際に端子で
ある透明導電膜を多少傷付けてしまったとしても、実使
用時に外部回路と接続するためには、それ迄に未使用で
無傷の内側の端子列の端子を使用できるので高い信頼性
が得られる。
［発明の効果］ 以上説明したように本発明によれば、複数の端子列を設
けることにより、経済性を高めたり、信頼性を高めたり
することが出来る。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. １、中間に液晶を挾んで対向配置されたガラス基板の少
    なくとも一方の一辺を液晶封止部の外方へ張り出させ、
    その辺に沿って、透明な液晶表示用電極に電圧を供給す
    るための、外部回路との接続用電極端子を配列した液晶
    表示素子において、前記外部回路との接続用電極端子の
    、形状、寸法、ピッチ等仕様の異なる複数種類のものを
    、仕様ごとに、それぞれ、基板の辺に平行な複数列に配
    列したことを特徴とする液晶表示素子。
