In the case of thin-film EL, full-color display has been difficult because materials particularly suitable for emitting blue light among the three primary colors have not been obtained so far. However, recently S
It has been shown that rS:Ce emits high-intensity blue-green light, and it has been disclosed that by equipping it with a color filter, it can be used as blue-green light for full-color display.

This structure includes one in which a transparent electrode 2, an insulating layer 3, a red light-emitting layer 6, an insulating layer 3, and a transparent electrode 2 are sequentially provided on the surface of a glass substrate 1, and a blue-green light-emitting layer 4 in place of the light-emitting layer 6. The light-emitting elements shown in FIG. 1 are stacked to face each other with color filters 5 in between, and the other components are the same. The light-emitting element with this structure simplifies the thin film formation technology by bonding two glass substrates with a light-emitting layer, and since the color filter 5 only needs to be inserted between the substrates, it is possible to There is an advantage that the forming method etc. are not particularly limited.

In addition, if the distance between the glass substrates is not made as small as possible, the blue-green light emitting layer 4 located at the back when viewed from the light emission side
(SrS:Ce in FIG. 5) and the red light-emitting layer B (CaS:Eu in FIG. 5) located in the foreground cause parallax, which causes color shift. As a method to solve such problems, a laminated structure as shown in FIG. 6 can be adopted.

No color shift due to parallax is observed. However, in order to use the color filter 5 in a place as shown in FIG. 6, there are limitations on the type of color filter 5 or the manufacturing method.

。Therefore, as shown in FIG. 7, for the glass substrate 1,
If an element structure is used in which the color filter 5 is provided on the side opposite to the transparent electrode 2, the insulating layer 3, the light emitting layers 4 and 6, etc., the color filter 5 can be formed after the light emitting part is formed, and the color filter 5 can be formed in contact with the light emitting part. Therefore, there are no particular restrictions on the type and manufacturing method of the color filter. However, since there is a glass substrate l between the light emitting section and the color filter, color shift due to the thickness of the substrate becomes a problem. Since the thickness of the glass substrate l directly affects the strength of the panel itself, there is a limit to how thin the glass substrate can be to prevent color shift.
