Description
The present invention relates to a driving assistance method and a driving assistance device.
One method of assisting vehicle travel is to assist in cutting in to a queue of congested vehicles. For example,
When using the technology disclosed in
The object of the present invention is to provide a driving assistance method and driving assistance device that enables a vehicle to smoothly rejoin the main line after assistance for cutting in to a congested line of vehicles is discontinued.
According to a driving support method according to an embodiment of the present invention, when a set driving route is a route from a main line to a branch lane, if a jammed vehicle line in a branch lane is detected, a cut-in-related control is started to support the cut-in of the host vehicle into the jammed vehicle line. In the cut-in-related control, a start point of a lane divider provided between the main line and the branch lane is detected, a cut-in point for the jammed vehicle line to cut in is identified, a final stop point in the forward direction is determined among the cut-in stop points before the start point of the divider where the host vehicle can rejoin the main line, a first distance is calculated which is a distance from the start point of the divider to the final stop point, a second distance is calculated which is a distance from the main line to the final stop point required for cutting in to the cut-in point, and when the host vehicle is located behind a position that is the second distance before the final stop point, a cut-in control is started to support the cut-in of the host vehicle into the cut-in point, and when the host vehicle arrives at the final stop point, the cut-in control is stopped to allow the host vehicle to rejoin the main line, and when the host vehicle is located ahead of a position that is the second distance before the final stop point, the cut-in control is not started. The first distance is calculated based on a cutting-in speed when cutting into the jammed line of vehicles and a re-merging target speed that is set as the vehicle speed when re-merging into the main line, and the first distance is set to be longer as the speed difference between the cutting-in speed and the re-merging target speed increases. The second distance is calculated based on an upper limit speed when cutting into the jammed line of vehicles and a current vehicle speed of the vehicle, and the second distance is set to be longer as the speed difference between the upper limit speed and the current vehicle speed increases .
The driving support method of the present invention makes it possible for a vehicle to smoothly rejoin the main line after ceasing to cut in on a congested line of vehicles.

The driving
Figures 2 and 3 show the driving conditions of a vehicle when cutting into a queue of congested vehicles. In these figures, the vehicle moves from the bottom to the top of the figure.
Figure 2 shows a main line L1 on the right side of the figure, and a branch road L2 (or branch lane L2) that branches off from the main line L1. The main line L1 and the branch road L2 are separated by a median strip that starts at a starting point X. The branch road L2 starts at a branch point P, which is located in the direction of travel before the starting point X of the median strip. Vehicle A is traveling on the main line L1, and on the branch road L2, there is a jammed train of vehicles C consisting of n vehicles B (vehicles B1 to Bn). In this example, the jammed train of vehicles C extends to the shoulder strip just before the branch point P where the branch road L2 begins to branch off, but the jammed train of vehicles C may also end before the branch point P.
In such a situation, the travel
However, when vehicle A approaches the cut-in point, the distance between vehicle B before and after the cut-in point may become shorter than the cut-in allowable length. In such a case, the travel
On the other hand, while vehicle A fails and tries to cut into the jammed vehicle line C multiple times, it approaches the start point X of the median strip. Therefore, if vehicle A can reach the final destination by traveling on the main line L1 instead of the branch road L2, the travel
Figure 3 shows the route by which vehicle A rejoins main line L1 after stopping its attempt to cut in to traffic C.
In order for the vehicle A to rejoin the main line L1 without interfering with the travel of other vehicles (not shown) traveling on the main line L1, the vehicle A needs to maintain a constant speed when rejoining. Therefore, the vehicle A must accelerate to the rejoining target speed after canceling the cut-in until rejoining the main line L1. However, if the travel distance is short, the vehicle A must accelerate rapidly to reach the rejoining target speed, which may cause discomfort to the driver. Therefore, in order to avoid rapid acceleration, the vehicle A needs to cancel the cut-in at a position a predetermined distance away from the start point X of the median strip and start rejoining the main line L1. In the following, the forwardmost cut-in stop position that allows the vehicle A to rejoin the main line L1 without rapid acceleration is the final position for canceling the cut-in, and is hereinafter referred to as the final stop position Y.
Here, we set the parameters as follows:
D: Distance in the direction of travel from the start point X of the median strip to the final stop position Y. v 1 : Lower limit speed when rejoining the main line L1 (rejoining target speed)
v2 : the vehicle speed of vehicle A when the cut-in is stopped (cut-in speed)
a: Maximum allowable acceleration in the forward/rearward direction l1 : Distance from the jammed vehicle line C at the final stop position Y to the main line L1 on the side of the median strip starting point X (travel distance until re-merging)
l 2 : Distance in the lane width direction from the jammed vehicle line C to the main line L1
Here, when the vehicle A accelerates from the cutting-in speed v2 to the re-merging target speed v1 at a constant acceleration while traveling from the jammed vehicle queue C at the final stop position Y to the main line L1 on the side of the starting point X of the median strip, the following equation is established regarding the relationship between the distance l1 and the acceleration time t.
( v1 + v2 )t/2= l1 ... (1)
t=2・l1/(v1+v2)・・・(2)
By transforming equation (1), we obtain the following equation.
t = 2 l1 / ( v1 + v2 ) ... (2)
t>(v2―v1)/a・・・(3)
Here, the maximum acceleration a is the maximum acceleration among the longitudinal accelerations allowed within a predetermined range that does not cause discomfort to the occupants. The time required to accelerate the vehicle speed from v2 to v1 at the maximum acceleration a is "( v2 - v1 )/a". In order to accelerate without causing discomfort to the driver, the acceleration time t needs to be longer than "( v2 - v1 )/a", so the following formula is obtained.
t>( v2 - v1 )/a...(3)
By substituting equation (2) into equation (3) and rearranging it, the following relationship is obtained.
l1 >( v2 - v1 )/2a( v1 + v2 )...(4)
This makes it possible to find the lower limit of l1 .
l1
2=l2
Furthermore, the following relationship holds between l 1 , l 2 and D:
l12 = l22 + D2 ... (5)
Therefore, by using the distance l2 in the lane width direction from the jammed vehicle train C to the main line L1, the distance D can be calculated according to equation (5). This allows the final stop position Y, which is the distance D before the start point X of the median strip, to be calculated.
Referring again to FIG. 1, the calculation of the final stop position Y as shown in FIG. 3 is performed by the travel
The
When the
When a jammed vehicle line C is present on the travel route of the host vehicle A, the cut-in
The cut-in
When the traffic jam vehicle
The cut-in
As described above, while vehicle A is approaching the cut-in point, the relationship between the two vehicles B adjacent to each other in the fore-and-aft direction may change due to the following vehicle accelerating or the preceding vehicle decelerating, and when vehicle A approaches the cut-in point, the inter-vehicle distance between the vehicles B before and after the cut-in point may not exceed the cut-in length. In such a case, the cut-in
However, as shown in FIG. 3, when the vehicle A approaches the start point X of the median strip and reaches the final stop position Y, the driving
The interrupt-related
The vehicle
The
The limit

In step S1, the controller (object recognition unit 12) obtains recognition results such as the position, direction of travel, size, and speed of each object present around the vehicle using the detection results of objects around the vehicle by the
In step S2, the controller (object recognition unit 12) corrects the error of the

In step S3, the controller (vehicle position within map estimation unit 15) acquires the vehicle position based on the detection result of the vehicle
In step S4, the controller (vehicle
In step S5, the controller (vehicle position within map estimation unit 15) identifies the vehicle position within the map using the vehicle position acquired in step S3 and the map data acquired in step S4.
In step S6, the controller (driving route generation unit 20) generates a driving route for the vehicle using the detection results of objects present in the vicinity of the vehicle obtained in step S2, and the vehicle position on the map and destination information obtained in step S5.
In step S7, the controller (travel route generating unit 20) detects the jammed vehicle sequence C and generates an interruption route that supports cutting in at the cut-in point identified in the jammed vehicle sequence C. The travel route generated in step S6 is then regenerated to include the cut-in route. Note that detailed processing of the cut-in-related control in step S7 will be described later with reference to FIG. 5. Also, if the jammed vehicle sequence C is not detected on the generated travel route, the processing of step S7 may be omitted.
In step S8, the controller (vehicle control unit 31) controls actuators related to driving, such as the steering angle, brake oil pressure, and accelerator opening of the vehicle, so that the vehicle travels along the driving route generated in step S6 or regenerated in step S7. The controller (vehicle control unit 31) may perform driving assistance, such as controlling some of the actuators related to driving or displaying the driving route on a display, to assist the occupant in driving along the driving route.
Figure 5 is a flowchart showing details of the interrupt-related control shown in step S7 of Figure 4.
In step S71, the controller (the traffic jam vehicle
In step S72, the controller (cut-in route generating unit 22) determines whether or not the attempt of vehicle A to cut in to the jammed vehicle queue C has failed. In detail, if the distance between vehicles B before and after the cut-in point does not exceed the cut-in possible length, the controller determines that the cut-in is not possible and determines that the cut-in has failed. On the other hand, if the distance between vehicles at the cut-in point exceeds the cut-in possible length, the controller supports vehicle A's travel to the cut-in point, and cut-in control is completed.
If the attempt of vehicle A to cut into the congested vehicle queue C has not failed (is successful) (S72: No), the controller ends the cut-in control process. On the other hand, if the attempt of vehicle A to cut into the congested vehicle queue C has failed (S72: Yes), the controller next executes the process of step S73.
In step S73, the controller (the cut-in related processing unit 23) uses the current cut-in speed v2 of the vehicle A obtained by the vehicle
The controller performs a calculation based on the formula (5) using the calculated distance l1 and the distance l2 in the lane width direction from the jammed vehicle train C to the main line L1. As a result, the distance l1 is converted into the distance in the traveling direction, and the distance D from the start point X of the median strip to the final stop position Y is obtained. Note that, as described above, it is desirable that the acceleration that is not uncomfortable for the driver is the distance D that allows the setting of a driving route in which the acceleration is not uncomfortable for the driver not only in the longitudinal direction but also in the lateral direction.
Then, the controller determines a position a distance D before the start point X of the separation strip as the final stop position Y, and sets the area from the final stop position Y to the start point X of the separation strip as a non-interruptible area.
In step S74, the controller (interrupt-related processing unit 23) determines whether or not the host vehicle A has reached an interrupt-free area. If the host vehicle A has not reached an interrupt-free area (S74: No), the controller then performs the process of step S75. If the host vehicle A has reached an interrupt-free area (S74: Yes), the controller then performs the process of step S76.
In step S75, the controller (cut-in route generating unit 22) again identifies a cut-in location in the jammed vehicle line C, similar to the process in step S71. The controller then generates a cut-in route to proceed to the cut-in location, and resets the travel route to include the generated cut-in route. In this way, driving assistance is provided so that the host vehicle A cuts in to the jammed vehicle line C at the newly identified cut-in location.
In step S76, the controller (cut-in related processing unit 23) determines that it is difficult to further attempt to cut in to the jammed vehicle line C, stops the cut-in support, and generates a route for rejoining the original main line L1. By reconfiguring the travel route to include the rejoining route thus generated, the host vehicle A is assisted in rejoining the main line L1.
Instead of the distance in the lane width direction from the jammed vehicle train C to the center of the main line L1, the distance in the lane width direction from the vehicle A to the center of the main line L1 at the time when the vehicle A stops cutting in to the jammed vehicle train C may be set as l2 . By setting in this manner, the final stop position Y when the vehicle A re-merges into the main line L1 can be calculated with higher accuracy.
In addition, when rejoining after canceling cutting in to a jammed line of vehicles C, it is desirable to set the rejoining route so that the lateral acceleration, which is the acceleration in the width direction (sideways) of the vehicle A that occurs in the vehicle, is within a predetermined range that does not cause discomfort to the driver. By reducing the lateral acceleration that occurs while traveling from the time the cutting in is canceled until rejoining, it is possible to prevent the driver from feeling undesirable lateral acceleration.
The re-merging target speed v1 may be set to be faster as the speed of the following vehicle on the main line L1 is faster. In this way, it is possible to reduce the risk that the following vehicle will approach the host vehicle A after re-merging.
According to the first embodiment, the following effects can be obtained:
(S76)。 According to the driving assistance method of the first embodiment, the controller identifies a cut-in point for the jammed vehicle line C, and assists the vehicle A to cut in at the cut-in point for the jammed vehicle line C (S71), and detects the start point X of the median strip between the main line L1 and the branch road L2 (S72). When the vehicle A stops cutting in to the jammed vehicle line C on the branch road L2 and rejoins the main line L1, the controller determines the final stop position Y, which is the forwardmost of the cut-in stop positions that will allow the vehicle A to rejoin the main line L1 just before the start point X of the median strip (S73), and when the vehicle A arrives at the final stop position Y, the controller provides driving assistance to stop cutting in and rejoin the main line L1 (S76).
As shown in equation (4), the distance D (first distance) from the start point X of the lane divider to the final stop position Y is longer as the speed difference ( v2 - v1 ) between the cutting-in speed v2 when cutting into the jammed vehicle line C and the re-merging target speed v1 that is the target when re-merging onto the main lane is larger.
With this configuration, the greater the difference between the rejoining target speed v1 when rejoining the main line L1 and the current cutting-in speed v2 , the further forward the final stop position Y is set in the traveling direction. Therefore, when rejoining the main line L1 after canceling the cutting-in, a sufficient travel distance for acceleration can be secured, so that the rejoining target speed v1 can be exceeded at an acceleration that is not uncomfortable for the driver. As a result, the risk of being caught up by other vehicles following after rejoining can be reduced, so that rejoining to the main line L1 can be performed more smoothly.
According to the driving assistance method of the first embodiment, the re-merging route when canceling cutting in and re-merging onto the main line L1 is set so that the longitudinal acceleration is equal to or less than the maximum acceleration a, which is a predetermined acceleration that does not cause discomfort to the occupants of the vehicle A. By setting the longitudinal acceleration on the route from canceling cutting in to re-merging to equal to or less than the maximum acceleration a, it is possible to prevent discomfort to the driver.
なお、再合流目標速度v1は、後続車両とのTTC(Time to Collision:衝突余裕時間)が長くなるように設定されてもよい。 According to the driving support method of the first embodiment, when calculating the distance D to be traveled until the vehicle A stops cutting in and rejoins the main line L1, the rejoining target speed v1 is set to be faster as the speed of the following vehicle on the main line L1 is faster. In this way, it is possible to reduce the risk that the following vehicle will approach the vehicle A after rejoining. Note that the rejoining target speed v1 may be set so as to lengthen the TTC (Time to Collision) with the following vehicle.
(Modification)
In the first embodiment, the uninterruptible region is set based on the formulas (4) and (5), but this is not limiting. The uninterruptible region set based on the formulas (4) and (5) may be corrected using other parameters.
Figure 6 is a flowchart of interrupt control in this modified example. Compared to the flowchart of the first embodiment shown in Figure 5, this flowchart adds a correction process in step S731 after the process in step S73.
In step S731, the controller (interruption-related processing unit 23) corrects the distance D calculated in step S73 in accordance with various parameters. This changes the final stop position Y, which is the distance D before the start point X of the separation strip, and corrects the non-interruptible area.
For example, the controller corrects the distance D so that it is longer the longer the queue of congested vehicles C. In general, when the queue of congested vehicles C is long, the number of times that the driver retries cutting in after failing to cut in is large. Therefore, even if the distance D is long and the final stop position Y is set further back, the driver is likely to feel uncomfortable about the cut-in being canceled because the driver has already tried to cut in sufficiently before the final stop position Y. This allows the driver to rejoin the main line L1 more smoothly.
The controller may also correct the distance D depending on the shape of the main line L1.
For example, if the main line has two or more lanes, the distance D is corrected to be shorter than when the main line has one lane. In general, if the main line L1 where the vehicle re-merges has two or more lanes, the number of other vehicles traveling on the lanes adjacent to the branch road L2 is small, so there is little risk of a following vehicle approaching vehicle A after re-merging.
Therefore, the distance D is shortened and the final stop position Y is set further forward. This shortens the travel distance until rejoining the main line L1 after the cut-in is stopped, but since there are fewer following vehicles traveling after rejoining the main line L1, there is little risk of the following vehicles approaching the vehicle. Therefore, even if the vehicle cannot accelerate to the rejoining target speed v1 , there is little risk of the following vehicles approaching the vehicle, and even if the vehicle accelerates at an acceleration exceeding the maximum allowable acceleration a, there is little risk of the following vehicles approaching the vehicle ahead at the time of rejoining. Therefore, even if the final stop position Y is set further forward, the vehicle can smoothly rejoin the main line L1.
As another example, when the lane width of the main line L1 is narrow, the distance D is corrected to be longer than when it is wide. In general, when the main line L1 where the vehicle is to rejoin is narrow, it is undesirable for a following vehicle to approach during rejoining. Therefore, by lengthening the distance D, the time until rejoining is longer, so that the vehicle can rejoin smoothly while checking for following vehicles.
Second Embodiment
In the first embodiment, the distance D required for the vehicle A to stop cutting into the jammed vehicle line C and rejoin the main line L1 was calculated. In the second embodiment, an example in which cutting in is stopped before cutting in is described, taking into consideration the distance D' required for the vehicle A on the main line L1 to cut in the jammed vehicle line C present on the branch road L2 in addition to the distance D. That is, in the first embodiment, the distance D required for rejoining the main line L1 was calculated, taking into consideration the stopping of cutting in and rejoining the main line L1 during cutting in the jammed vehicle line C. In the second embodiment, the distance D' required for the vehicle A on the main line L1 to cut in the jammed vehicle line C present on the branch road L2 in addition to the distance D is calculated, taking into consideration the rejoining of the main line L1 before cutting in. Here, the calculation of the distance D in the second embodiment is the same as that in the first embodiment described above, so the calculation of the distance D' will be described first below.
Figure 7 shows the route taken by vehicle A on a two-lane road to cut in from the right lane L1 to a queue of vehicles C in the left lane L2. Note that in this figure, unlike Figure 1, the lanes are not separated by a median strip.
In order not to significantly impede the driving of the driver of vehicle B in the jammed vehicle line C, vehicle A must decelerate to a certain speed or less just before cutting into the jammed vehicle line C. However, without a certain driving distance, vehicle A cannot decelerate in a way that is not uncomfortable for the driver. Therefore, there exists a distance D' that is necessary to cut in.
Here, the parameters are set as follows:
D': Distance from the vehicle A to the cut-in point in the travel direction v1 ': Upper limit speed when cutting in to the jammed vehicle line C (cut-in target speed)
v2 ': current vehicle speed of vehicle A a': maximum allowable deceleration l1 ': distance from vehicle A on main line L1 to the cut-in point of congested vehicle train C (travel distance until cut-in)
l 2 ': distance in the lane width direction from vehicle A to the cut-in point
Here, when vehicle A decelerates from speed v2 ' to v1 ' while traveling from main line L1 to the cut-in point of congested vehicle line C, the following equation holds regarding the relationship between distance l1 and deceleration time t'.
( v1 '+ v2 ')t'/2= l1 '... (6)
By transforming equation (6), the following equation is obtained.
t' = 2 l1 ' / ( v1 ' + v2 ') ... (7)
t’>(v2’―v1’)/a’・・・(8)
Here, the maximum deceleration a' is the maximum acceleration among the longitudinal accelerations allowed within a predetermined range that does not cause discomfort to the occupants, similar to the maximum acceleration a in the first embodiment described above. The time required to decelerate the vehicle speed from v2 ' to v1 ' at the maximum deceleration a' is ( v2' - v1 ')/a'. In order to decelerate the vehicle without causing discomfort to the driver, the deceleration time t' needs to be longer than ( v2' - v1 ')/a', and the following formula is obtained.
t'>( v2' - v1 ')/a' (8)
By substituting equation (7) into equation (8) and rearranging it, the following relationship is obtained.
l 1 '>(v 2 '-v 1 ')/2a '(v 1 '+v 2 ') ... (9)
This makes it possible to find the lower limit of l 1 '.
Furthermore, the following relationship holds between l 1 ', l 2 ', and D'.
l 1 ' 2 = l 2 ' 2 + D ' 2 ... (10)
Therefore, the distance l2 ' in the lane width direction from the main line L1 to the cut-in point is calculated, and the distance D' can be calculated according to equation (10). This makes it possible to find the distance D' required to cut in.
The driving
The vehicle
The
The limit
The driving
In addition, when performing cut-in assistance, it is desirable to set the cut-in route so that the lateral acceleration, which is the acceleration in the vehicle width direction (lateral direction) that occurs in the host vehicle A, is within a predetermined range. By reducing the lateral acceleration on the cut-in route, it is possible to prevent discomfort to the driver.
When calculating the distance D' required for cut-in assistance, the cut-in target speed v 1 ', which is the upper limit speed for cutting into the jammed vehicle train C, is set to be faster as the speed of the vehicles in the jammed vehicle train C is faster.
In addition, the longer the traffic jam vehicle line C is, the longer the distance D' may be corrected.
The controller may also correct the distance D' depending on the shape of the main line L1.
For example, when the main line has two or more lanes, the distance D' is corrected to be shorter than when the main line has one lane. Generally, when the main line L1 on which the vehicle travels before cutting into the jammed vehicle line C has two or more lanes, the number of vehicles traveling on the main line L1 adjacent to the adjacent lane L2 is small among those lanes. Therefore, even if the deceleration increases by shortening the distance D', there is less risk of the following vehicle approaching the vehicle on the main line L1, and the vehicle can cut in more smoothly.
In addition, when the lane width of the main lane is narrow, the distance D' is corrected to be shorter than when it is wide. In general, when the main lane L1 is relatively narrow, it tends to be less desirable for following vehicles to approach during cut-in assistance. Therefore, by lengthening the distance D', the time until cutting in is longer, so that the following vehicle can be checked and cut in smoothly.
In the second embodiment, the sum of the distance D calculated in the same manner as in the first embodiment and the above-mentioned D' is calculated to determine whether or not to start cutting in assistance when there is a possibility that cutting in will be canceled.
Figure 8 shows the driving conditions of vehicle A in this second embodiment.
This diagram shows a route in which vehicle A attempts to cut into the jammed line of vehicles C, then stops cutting in at final stop position Y and rejoins the main line just before starting point X of the median strip.
In this figure, the distance D' required to cut into the jammed vehicle line C can be calculated based on the formulas (9) and (10) as shown in the second embodiment. Also, the distance D required to rejoin the main line after ceasing to cut into the jammed vehicle line C can be calculated based on the formulas (4) and (5) as shown in the first embodiment. As shown in the figure, the same value is used for the distance in the lane width direction from the jammed vehicle line C to the center of the main line L1 in the formulas (5) and (10), so it is assumed that "l 2 =l 2 '" holds. Also, it is assumed that the cutting-in speed v 2 in formula (4) is equal to the cutting-in target speed v 1 ' in formula (9).
Figure 9 is a flowchart of interrupt control in the second embodiment. Compared to the flowchart of the first embodiment shown in Figure 5, this flowchart adds a judgment in step S70 before the processing in step S71, and provides step S73' instead of step S73.
In the first embodiment, the distance D from the start point X of the separation strip to the final stop position Y was calculated in step S73. In contrast, in this embodiment, the distance D is calculated in step S70. Meanwhile, in step S73', the distance D is not calculated, and only the non-interruptable area is identified.
In step S70, similar to the process in step S73 in the first embodiment, the controller (interrupt-related processing unit 23) calculates the distance l1 based on equation (4), and then calculates the distance D based on equation (5). Furthermore, the controller calculates the distance l1 ' based on equation (9), and then calculates the distance D' based on equation (10).
Then, the controller determines whether the host vehicle A is located a distance D+D' closer to the start point X of the median strip.
When vehicle A is located a distance D+D' behind the start point X of the median strip, as shown in FIG. 8, vehicle A can attempt to cut in to the queue of congested vehicles C, then stop cutting in and rejoin the main line, so next, step S71 is processed to start cutting in control.
On the other hand, if vehicle A is located a distance D+D' ahead of the start point X of the median strip, and vehicle A attempts to cut into the jammed line of vehicles C, it will be difficult for vehicle A to rejoin the main line L1 after ceasing to cut in. Therefore, the controller ends the cut-in related control without starting the cut-in control. In this way, unnecessary cut-in control can be suppressed.
According to the second embodiment, the following effects can be obtained:
According to the driving assistance method of the second embodiment, a distance D' (second distance) required for the host vehicle A to cut in from the main line L1 to the cut-in point of the congested vehicle queue C on the branch road L2 is further calculated, and support for cutting in is not started if the host vehicle A is located ahead of a position that is the distance D' before the final stop position Y. The distance D' is longer the greater the speed difference between the cut-in target speed v1 ' when cutting in to the congested vehicle queue C and the speed v2 ' on the main line L1.
With this configuration, it is possible to determine whether or not cutting in control can be started at a position a distance D' before the final stop position Y where cutting in to the jammed vehicle line C is stopped and the vehicle rejoins the main line L1. Since a distance D' is required to cut in to the jammed vehicle line C from the main line L1, if the vehicle A is located further forward than a position that is the distance D' before the final stop position Y, it becomes difficult to stop cutting in and rejoin the main line L1 after starting to cut in.
Therefore, if the vehicle A is located ahead of the final stop position Y by a distance D', unnecessary driving assistance can be suppressed by not starting cut-in assistance.
The decision to stop or start cutting in to the jammed vehicle line C may be made based on all travel routes including the main line L1 and the branch road L2. Also, the decision to stop or start cutting in may be made taking into account other branch roads, etc., so as to shorten the travel distance or the time it takes to reach the destination.
