コアは、第3環状領域に対して、約0.1%より大きく、約0.3%より小さい、最大相対屈折率Δ1MAXを備え、
第1環状領域は、約0.025%より小さく、約−0.025%より大きい、最大相対屈折率Δ2MAX(r)を有し、
第2環状領域は、第3環状領域に対して、最小相対屈折率Δ3MINを備え、Δ1MAX>Δ2MAX>Δ3MIN、かつ、Δ3MIN<0であり、かつ、その中に少なくとも10個の無秩序に分散した閉塞孔を有する石英系ガラスを含み、かつ、(i)孔の間の平均距離が5000nm未満で、(ii)少なくとも孔の80%が1000nm未満の最大断面寸法Diを有し、
コアとクラッドは、1500nm未満のケーブルカットオフをファイバに提供し、1550nmで95μm2より大きい実効面積を提供する。
図1及び図2において、本明細書で開示される光導波路ファイバ10は、中心軸から主要セグメントの外側半径R1(好ましくは、R1>5μm)に半径方向外側まで延在し、かつ、最大相対屈折率パーセントΔ1MAX(好ましくは、Δ1MAX≦0.3%かつ0.1%より大きい)で%の相対屈折率分布Δ1(r)を有するコア20と;コア20を囲みかつ直接隣接、すなわち、直接接触するクラッド200とを備える。クラッド200は、コア20を囲みかつ直接隣接し、半径方向外側に第2環状領域50まで延在し、半径R2によって特徴づけられる第1環状領域30であって、幅W2(W2=R2−R1)及び%の最大相対屈折率パーセントΔ2MAX(ここで、Δ2MAXは好ましくは約0.025%より小さく、かつ好ましくは約−0.025%より大きい)と最小相対屈折率パーセントΔ2MINで%の相対屈折率分布Δ2(r)を有する第1環状領域30と;領域30を囲みかつ直接隣接し、半径報告外側にR2から半径R3まで延在する第2環状領域50であって、幅W3を有し、Δ1MAX>0>Δ3MINであり、%の最小相対屈折率パーセントΔ3MIN(好ましくは、Δ3MIN≦−0.3%)で%の相対屈折率分布Δ3(r)を有する第2環状領域50と;領域50を囲みかつ直接隣接し、%の相対屈折率分布Δ4(r)を有する第3環状領域60とを備える。R1はΔ1(r)が最初に+0.05%に到達する半径であると定められる。すなわち、半径R1で(外側半径方向に向かい)相対屈折率が+0.05%に最初に到達するところで、Δコア20は終わり、環状領域30が始まる。そして、領域30は、外側半径方向に向かい、相対屈折率Δ2(r)が−0.05%に最初に到達する半径R2で終わると定められる。第2環状領域50は、本実施形態では、第2環状領域50はR2で始まり、R3で終わる。R3は、相対屈折率Δ3(r)が少なくとも−0.05%に下がった後、(外側半径方向に向かい)相対屈折率Δ3(r)が−0.05%の値に到達する半径であると定められる。第2環状領域50の幅W3はR3−R2であり、その中点R3MIDは(R3−R2)/2である。いくつかの実施形態ではコア20の90%以上が正の相対屈折率を有し、いくつかの実施形態ではΔ1(r)が0からR1まですべての半径に対して正である。いくつかの実施形態では、第1環状領域30の半径幅の50%以上に対して、|Δ2(r)|<0.025%、かつ、|Δ2MAX−Δ2MIN|<0.05%である。また、他の実施形態では、第1環状領域30の半径幅の50%以上に対して、|Δ2(r)|<0.01%である。Δ3(r)がR2からR3まですべての半径に対して負である。好ましくは、30μmより大きいすべての半径に対して、ΔCLAD(r)=0%である。クラッド200は、光ファイバのガラス部分の最外部の外面でもある半径R4まで延在する。また、Δ1MAX>Δ2MAX>Δ3MIN、かつ、Δ2MIN>Δ3MINである。

Claims (10)
- 中心軸から約5μmより大きい半径R1まで延在するガラスコアと、該コアを囲みかつ接触するガラスクラッドとを備えた光ファイバであって、
前記コアと前記クラッドは、1500nm未満のケーブルカットオフを前記ファイバに提供し、1550nmで110μm2より大きい実効面積と、直径20mmのマンドレルで0.5dB/ターン以下の曲げ損失を提供し、かつ、
(i)前記クラッドは、半径R1から半径R2まで延在し、半径幅W2(W2=R2−R1)を備える第1環状領域と、半径R2から半径R3まで延在し、半径幅W3(W3=R3−R2)を備える第2環状領域と、該第2環状領域を囲みかつ半径R3から最外部のガラスの半径R4まで延在する第3環状領域とを備え、かつ、
(ii)前記コアは、前記第3環状領域に対して、約0.1%より大きく、約0.3%より小さい、最大相対屈折率Δ1MAXを備え、
前記第1環状領域は約0.025%より小さい相対屈折率Δ2(r)を有し、
前記第2環状領域は、前記第3環状領域に対して、最小相対屈折率Δ3MINを備え、Δ1MAX>Δ2MAX>Δ3MIN、かつ、Δ2MIN>Δ3MIN<0であり、かつ、その中に少なくとも10個の無秩序に分散した閉塞孔を有する石英系ガラスを含み、(a)前記孔の間の平均距離が5000nmより小さく、(b)少なくとも孔の80%が1000nmより小さい最大断面寸法Diを有し、
R2>12μm、かつ、W3が2μmと10μmとの間であることを特徴とする光ファイバ。 - 前記第3環状領域に対するΔ3MINが約−0.3%より小さいことを特徴とする請求項1記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記クラッドと組み合わせた前記コアが、波長1550nmにおいて直径20mmのマンドレルで0.25dB/ターンより小さい曲げ損失を提供することを特徴とする請求項1から3いずれか1項記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記クラッドと組み合わせた前記コアが、波長1550nmにおいて直径20mmのマンドレルで0.10dB/ターンより小さい曲げ損失を提供することを特徴とする請求項1から4いずれか1項記載の光ファイバ。
- 20%−μm2<|V3|<80%−μm2であることを特徴とする請求項1から5いずれか1項記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記実効面積が少なくとも125μm2であることを特徴とする請求項1から6いずれか1項記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記実効面積が少なくとも135μm2であることを特徴とする請求項1から7いずれか1項記載の光ファイバ。
- R1/R2が約0.3と約0.4の間であることを特徴とする請求項1から8いずれか1項記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記第2環状領域が、フッ素を含むことを特徴とする請求項1から9いずれか1項記載の光ファイバ。
