Description
The present invention provides a sensor means in which a detection electrode and a counter electrode with which a detection target gas reacts are connected to both sides of an electrolyte layer, and the detection target gas contained in the outside air is in contact with the detection electrode at a diffusion rate. A diffusion control means having a diffusion control hole for controlling an inflow amount, and detecting the concentration of the detection target gas based on a current flowing between the detection electrode and the counter electrode or a voltage corresponding to the current. The present invention relates to a method for diagnosing an electrochemical sensor that diagnoses an abnormal state of the electrochemical sensor. The present invention also relates to an electrochemical sensor for performing such a diagnostic method.
As one of sensors mounted on an alarm device or the like, for example, there is a CO sensor that detects carbon monoxide gas. An electrochemical method is known as a detection method of the CO sensor. The electrochemical sensor is generally configured by sandwiching an electrolyte solution or a solid electrolyte between a detection electrode and a counter electrode.
The detection principle of this electrochemical sensor will be described using a CO sensor that detects carbon monoxide gas as an example.
When carbon monoxide, which is a gas to be detected, comes into contact with the detection electrode of the CO sensor, as shown in the following (1), carbon monoxide and water react with each other to generate carbon dioxide and proton (H + ) And electrons (e − ) are generated.
CO + H 2 O → CO 2 + 2H + + 2e − (1)
The reaction (1) is a diffusion-controlled reaction that depends on the rate at which carbon monoxide diffuses in the measurement atmosphere under conditions where there are diffusion control holes and the like as in this case (oxygen and carbon monoxide coexist). In the vicinity of the mixed potential of the sensing electrode, the oxidation reaction of carbon monoxide is diffusion-limited.)
Protons (H + ) generated at the detection electrode pass through the electrolyte and move to the counter electrode side. Furthermore, the electrons (e − ) generated at the detection electrode pass through the external circuit and move to the counter electrode, and react with oxygen introduced into the counter electrode and water in the electrolyte as shown in (2) below. (OH − ) is generated. Since oxygen is also present at the detection electrode, generally about half of the carbon monoxide is oxidized with oxygen at the detection electrode, and the other half is oxidized with oxygen at the counter electrode.
1 / 2.O 2 + H 2 O + 2e − → 2OH − (2)
In this way, the concentration of carbon monoxide in the measurement atmosphere is measured by detecting the electrical characteristics of electrons flowing in the external circuit from the detection electrode side to the counter electrode side in accordance with the above reaction, for example, as a short-circuit current value. Alternatively, the concentration of carbon monoxide in the measurement atmosphere can be measured by detecting the open circuit voltage with the detection electrode and the counter electrode being in an open circuit state.
By the way, when the number of carbon monoxide molecules is larger than the gas molecules constituting the measurement atmosphere (that is, when the concentration of carbon monoxide is high), the absolute number of CO molecules supplied to the detection electrode increases. If it does so, there exists a possibility that reaction of said (1) in the detection pole side may not catch up.
Therefore, in an electrochemical sensor typified by the CO sensor, a diffusion control plate is provided on the detection electrode side via an upper conductive hydrophobic film. The diffusion control plate is formed with diffusion control holes for controlling the amount of gas molecules constituting the measurement atmosphere and the amount of detection target gas molecules passing through. Thereby, the number of molecules of the detection target gas passing through the diffusion control hole is reliably reduced to such an extent that the diffusion-controlled reaction proceeds. As a result, there is no inconvenience that the reaction (1) cannot catch up at the detection electrode. However, in this case, it is important to maintain the diffusion control hole, the upper conductive hydrophobic film, the detection electrode, the electrolyte layer, the counter electrode, and the like in a healthy state.
However, for example, when condensation occurs in an electrochemical sensor and the condensed water closes the diffusion control hole and becomes clogged, the diffusibility of the detection target gas decreases, and the reaction of (1) above, (2) ) Reaction is inhibited. Similarly, for example, the dew condensation, an abrupt temperature change in the atmosphere of the electrochemical sensor, or the atmosphere of the electrochemical sensor is exposed to an extremely high humidity state (relative humidity of 90% or more). In such an electrochemical sensor, excessive water or electrolyte in the electrolyte layer stays in or near the upper conductive hydrophobic film or becomes clogged due to precipitation of the electrolyte. If the water is excessively retained at the interface, the diffusibility of the gas to be detected is lowered, and the reaction (1) and the reaction (2) are hindered.
Therefore, if the diffusibility of the gas to be detected, such as whether or not the diffusion control hole is clogged in the electrochemical sensor, can be easily diagnosed as an abnormal state, it is good in a normal state. In addition, it is expected that the concentration of the gas to be detected can be detected, the reliability as a product is improved, and the convenience for the user is also improved.
In this regard, conventionally, there is no diagnosis of a state in which the diffusibility of the gas to be detected such as a clogged state of the diffusion control hole is reduced. A method for diagnosing the soundness of an electrochemical sensor from the presence or absence of an output peak or an output bottom when the sensor is turned on again after being turned off has been proposed (see, for example, Patent Document 1).
However, as described above, the method of
In addition, as described in paragraph 0011 of this document, in order to reliably diagnose the healthy state of the electrochemical sensor, a certain amount of time is required until the power is turned on and then turned on again.
Furthermore, in the method of the same document, the abnormal state of the electrochemical sensor cannot be detected unless the diffusion control hole is completely closed and disconnected, but there is also a demand for detection before the diffusion control hole is completely closed. . Further, even when the diffusion control hole is completely opened, there is a demand for diagnosing this as an abnormal state when a decrease in the diffusibility of the detection target gas occurs.
Accordingly, the present invention has been made in view of the above-mentioned problems, and its purpose is to partially or completely block the diffusion control hole in an electrochemical sensor provided with a diffusion control plate having a diffusion control hole. Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to establish a diagnostic method for an electrochemical sensor capable of easily and reliably diagnosing whether or not the diffusibility of the detection target gas is reduced.
The diagnostic method for an electrochemical sensor according to the present invention includes a sensor means in which a detection electrode and a counter electrode to which a detection target gas reacts are connected to both sides of an electrolyte layer, and the detection target gas contained in the outside air is diffusion-controlled to the detection electrode. A diffusion control means for forming a diffusion control hole for controlling an inflow amount of the outside air so as to come into contact, and the detection based on a current flowing between the detection electrode and the counter electrode or a voltage corresponding to the current An electrochemical sensor diagnosis method for diagnosing an abnormal state of an electrochemical sensor for detecting a concentration of a target gas, characterized in that the characteristic means is in an appropriate wet state between the detection electrode and the counter electrode, and the detection A state in which the concentration of the target gas can be detected is set as a normal wet state, an electrical characteristic generated between the detection electrode and the counter electrode is detected, and the detected electrical characteristic is in the normal wet state. Compared with a reference electrical characteristic between the detection electrode and the counter electrode in a combined state, if the detected electrical characteristic is deviated from the reference electrical characteristic in the normal wet state, the diffusibility is reduced. It is in the point of diagnosing that it is abnormal condition.
In an electrochemical sensor, it is usually necessary to supply a necessary and sufficient amount (predetermined amount) of water to the electrolyte layer in order to reliably perform a reaction when detecting the concentration of the detection target gas. In such a situation, if the diffusion control hole of the diffusion control plate formed on the detection electrode side is partially or completely closed, the diffusibility of the detection target gas is lowered. Similarly, in the electrochemical sensor, excessive water is retained at the interface between the electrolyte layer and the detection electrode, and an upper conductive hydrophobic film is provided between the detection electrode and the diffusion control plate. In some cases, excessive water or electrolyte in the electrolyte layer may stay in or near the upper conductive hydrophobic membrane or become clogged due to deposition of the electrolyte. The diffusibility of is reduced. When the diffusibility of the detection target gas is lowered in this manner, the detection of water vapor from the diffusion control hole is suppressed or the reactions (1) and (2) are inhibited. The amount of water present between the pole and the counter electrode increases.
Then, depending on the decrease in diffusibility, the electrical characteristics generated between the detection electrode and the counter electrode vary.
Therefore, in the diagnostic method of the electrochemical sensor according to the present characteristic means, the thus changed electric characteristic is detected, and this electric characteristic is in a normal wet state (a proper wet state between the detection electrode and the counter electrode, Compared with the reference electrical characteristics corresponding to the state in which the concentration of the detection target gas can be detected). As a result, when the detected electrical characteristic varies from the reference electrical characteristic (for example, when there is a variation of a predetermined threshold value or more), it is determined that the diffusibility of the detection target gas is reduced, Diagnose an abnormal condition. In the normal wet state, when a detection target gas having a specific concentration exists, a current flowing between the detection electrode and the counter electrode and a voltage corresponding to the current can be obtained in a state corresponding to the specific concentration. The wet state where the amount of water existing between the detection electrode and the counter electrode is within an appropriate range (predetermined amount). On the other hand, when it is not in a normal wet state (when the amount of water existing between the detection electrode and the counter electrode is outside the appropriate range), there is excess moisture, so there is a gas to be detected with a specific concentration. Even in this case, the current and voltage corresponding to the specific concentration cannot be obtained, and the concentration of the detection target gas cannot be accurately detected.
As described above, in this feature means, whether or not the diffusion control hole formed in the diffusion control plate is partially or completely blocked by using the electrical characteristics of the electrochemical sensor to reduce the diffusibility, etc. Therefore, it is possible to easily and reliably diagnose an abnormal state in which the diffusibility of the detection target gas is reduced.
Further characteristic means of the diagnostic method of the electrochemical sensor according to the present invention is that an AC voltage is applied between the detection electrode and the counter electrode, and an electrical characteristic generated between the detection electrode and the counter electrode is used. When the detected impedance or the real part of the impedance is lower than the reference impedance or the real part of the reference impedance as the reference electrical characteristic in the normal wet state, the detection pole and It is considered that the amount of water existing between the counter electrode and the amount of water in the normal wet state is increased, and it is judged that the diffusibility is lowered and diagnosed as an abnormal state. .
According to the electrochemical sensor diagnostic method of this feature means, when an AC voltage is applied between the detection electrode and the counter electrode, the conductivity between the detection electrode and the counter electrode increases, so that Judging that the diffusivity of the gas to be detected has decreased due to the generated impedance or the real part of the impedance being lower than the reference impedance in the normal wet state or the real part of the reference impedance, and diagnosing the abnormal state Can do.
Therefore, in this feature means, simply by monitoring the impedance between the detection electrode and the counter electrode when an AC voltage is applied or the real part of the impedance, the abnormal state in which the diffusibility of the detection target gas is reduced can be easily and It becomes possible to make a diagnosis reliably. In particular, since it is only necessary to continuously monitor the impedance or the real part of the impedance, it is not necessary to stop detection, and an abnormal state can be easily diagnosed.
Further characteristic means of the diagnostic method of the electrochemical sensor according to the present invention is that an AC voltage is applied between the detection electrode and the counter electrode, and an electrical characteristic generated between the detection electrode and the counter electrode is used. When the detected phase difference is larger than the reference phase difference as the reference electrical characteristic in the normal wet state, water existing between the detection electrode and the counter electrode is detected. The amount is considered to be higher than the amount of water in the normal wet state, and it is judged that the diffusibility is lowered and diagnosed as an abnormal state.
According to the electrochemical sensor diagnostic method of this feature means, when an AC voltage is applied between the detection electrode and the counter electrode, the conductivity between the detection electrode and the counter electrode increases, so that Since the phase difference between the generated voltage and current is increased from the reference phase difference in the normal wet state, it can be determined that the diffusibility of the detection target gas is reduced, and it can be diagnosed as an abnormal state.
Therefore, in this feature means, simply by monitoring the phase difference between the voltage and current between the detection electrode and the counter electrode when an AC voltage is applied, an abnormal state in which the diffusibility of the detection target gas is reduced can be easily and It becomes possible to make a diagnosis reliably. In particular, since it is only necessary to continuously monitor the phase difference, it is not necessary to stop detection, and an abnormal state can be easily diagnosed.
The further characteristic means of the diagnostic method for an electrochemical sensor according to the present invention is that the AC voltage is an AC voltage having a frequency of 10 Hz or less.
According to the diagnostic method of the electrochemical sensor of this configuration, an AC voltage having a relatively low frequency of 10 Hz or less is applied. Therefore, when compared with the reference electrical characteristic (reference phase difference) in a normal wet state, the gas to be detected In this state, the fluctuation in the phase difference between the voltage and current between the sensing electrode and the counter electrode, which is the electrical characteristic when the diffusibility of the gas is reduced, can be detected more greatly, and the diffusivity of the detection target gas is reduced Can be diagnosed more easily and reliably.
Further characteristic means of the diagnostic method for an electrochemical sensor according to the present invention is that the normal wet state is realized in a state where the diffusion control hole is completely opened.
According to the diagnostic method of the electrochemical sensor of this configuration, the normal wet state is a state in which the gap between the detection electrode and the counter electrode is an appropriate wet state, and the concentration of the detection target gas can be detected. Is completely open. Thereby, the electrical characteristics between the detected sensing electrode and the counter electrode are compared with the reference electrical characteristics between the sensing electrode and the counter electrode in the normal wet state (a state in which the diffusion control hole is completely opened). be able to. Therefore, at least when the diffusion control hole is in a clogged state in which it is partially or completely blocked, the detected electrical characteristics vary from the reference electrical characteristics, and therefore exist between the sensing electrode and the counter electrode. Assuming that the amount of water to be increased is larger than the amount of water in the normal wet state, it can be diagnosed as an abnormal state reliably that the diffusibility of the detection target gas has decreased.
The electrochemical sensor according to the present invention is configured such that the detection electrode to which the detection target gas reacts and the counter electrode are connected to both sides of the electrolyte layer, and the detection target gas contained in the outside air contacts the detection electrode at a diffusion-controlled rate. A diffusion control means for forming a diffusion control hole for controlling the inflow amount of the outside air, and based on a current flowing between the detection electrode and the counter electrode or a voltage corresponding to the current, An electrochemical sensor for detecting a concentration, the characteristic configuration of which is a detection means for detecting an electrical characteristic generated between the detection electrode and the counter electrode, and an appropriate gap between the detection electrode and the counter electrode A state in which the concentration of the detection target gas in a wet state can be detected is a normal wet state, and the detected electrical characteristic is a reference between the detection electrode and the counter electrode in the normal wet state. A comparison means for comparing with a thermal characteristic, and when the detected electrical characteristic is fluctuating from a reference electrical characteristic in the normal wet state, it is determined that the diffusibility is lowered, and in an abnormal state And diagnostic means for diagnosing that there is.
In an electrochemical sensor, it is usually necessary to supply a necessary and sufficient amount (predetermined amount) of water to the electrolyte layer in order to reliably perform a reaction when detecting the concentration of the detection target gas. In such a situation, if the diffusion control hole (diffusion control means) of the diffusion control plate formed on the detection electrode side is partially or completely blocked, the diffusibility of the detection target gas decreases. Similarly, in the electrochemical sensor, water is excessively retained at the interface between the electrolyte layer and the detection electrode, and an upper conductive hydrophobic film is provided between the detection electrode and the diffusion control plate.
In view of this, the electrochemical sensor according to the present feature configuration detects the electrical characteristics thus changed by the detection means, and the electrical characteristics are detected by the comparison means in a normal wet state (an appropriate wetness between the detection electrode and the counter electrode). Compared with the reference electrical characteristics corresponding to the state in which the concentration of the detection target gas can be detected). As a result, when the detected electrical characteristics vary from the reference electrical characteristics (for example, when there is a variation of a predetermined threshold value or more), the diagnostic means indicates that the diffusibility of the detection target gas has decreased. It can be judged and diagnosed as being in an abnormal state.
As described above, in this characteristic configuration, whether or not the diffusion control hole formed in the diffusion control plate is partially or completely blocked by using the electrical characteristics of the electrochemical sensor to reduce the diffusibility, etc. Therefore, it is possible to easily and reliably diagnose an abnormal state in which the diffusibility of the detection target gas is reduced.

[Diagnostic method of electrochemical sensor]
As described in the section of the prior art, in the
First, in the circuit shown in FIG. 3, an AC voltage is applied between the
As shown in FIG. 4, this detection result is obtained when the gap between the

Therefore, it is possible to easily and reliably diagnose an abnormal state in which the diffusibility of the carbon monoxide gas is reduced by using the impedance value Z between the
On the other hand, although not shown, a plurality of
Thus, as a case where it changes suddenly from 50-70 degreeC to room temperature (about 20 degreeC), when using the

In the above embodiment, the detection means 207 applies an AC voltage and detects the impedance Z as an electrical characteristic. However, the detection means 207 detects the real part of the impedance Z as an electrical characteristic and is in a normal wet state. By comparing with the real part of the reference impedance at, an abnormal state in which the diffusibility of the carbon monoxide gas is reduced can be diagnosed.
