Description
交互に直交する第1及び第2方向の第1及び第2導波チャンネルが形成される導光板部と、前記導光板部の第1導波チャンネルに光を供給する複数の第1光源及び前記第2導波チャンネルに光を供給する複数の第2光源を含み前記液晶表示パネルに照射される面光源をマトリックス形態のブロックに分割するバックライトユニットと、
入力映像を前記ブロック大きさ単位に分析して前記第1光源の輝度を個別制御するための第1ディミング値を先決めして、前記第1ディミング値を基礎で前記第2光源の輝度を個別制御するための第2ディミング値を後決めした後、前記決定された第1及び第2ディミング値による隣りブロックの間輝度差を減らすために前記第1及び第2ディミング値を調整するディミング制御部を備える。
図8及び図9は第1実施形態に係る導光板部20の構造及び第1及び第2光源23,24の配置構造を示す。
第2導光板アレイは第1導光板アレイの下に配置される。
図10A乃至図12は第2実施形態に係る導光板部20の一部を示す。

Claims (9)
- 画像が表示される液晶表示パネルと、
交互に直交する第1及び第2方向の第1及び第2導波チャンネルが形成される導光板部と、前記導光板部の第1導波チャンネルに光を供給する複数の第1光源及び前記第2導波チャンネルに光を供給する複数の第2光源を含み前記液晶表示パネルに照射される面光源をマトリックス形態のブロックに分割するバックライトユニットと、
入力映像を前記ブロックサイズ単位に分析して前記第1光源の輝度を個別制御するための第1ディミング値を先に決め、前記第1ディミング値に基づいて前記第2光源の輝度を個別制御するための第2ディミング値を後に決めた後、前記決定された第1及び第2ディミング値による隣接ブロック間の輝度差を減らすために前記第1及び第2ディミング値を調整するディミング制御部を備え、
前記第1光源は前記調整された第1ディミング値に応答して前記第1導波チャンネルに光を供給し、
前記第2光源は前記調整された第2ディミング値に応答して前記第2導波チャンネルに光を供給し、
前記第1ディミング値は前記入力映像の分析結果を基礎としたブロック別最終目標輝度値の中の第1方向の導波チャンネル単位に導出された第1最大輝度値に基づいて前記第1方向の導波チャンネル単位でそれぞれ決められ、
前記第2ディミング値は前記ブロック別最終目標輝度値で前記第1最大輝度値を減算して得られたブロック別中間目標輝度値の中の第2方向の導波チャンネル単位に導出された第2最大輝度値に基づいて前記第2方向の導波チャンネル単位でそれぞれ決定されることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
- 前記ディミング制御部は前記第1及び第2ディミング値を調整するための周辺輝度値を出力するルックアップテーブル(Look−up Table)を備え、
前記周辺輝度値は前記第1及び第2ディミング値からなる基準値によって決められる輝度値との差が所定のしきい輝度値以下になるように設定されることを特徴とする、請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記ディミング制御部は前記第1及び第2ディミング値の調整程度によって発生する剰余輝度に関する情報をあらかじめ記憶して、
この記憶された情報に基づいて剰余輝度上昇分だけ表示画像の全体的な輝度を低下させることを特徴とする、請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記導光板部は、
前記第1方向に沿って配置されて前記第2方向の導波チャンネルを定義する複数の第1導光板を有する第1導光板アレイと、
前記第1導光板アレイの下に位置して、前記第2方向に沿って配置されて前記第1方向の導波チャンネルを定義する複数の第2導光板を有する第2導光板アレイを備えることを特徴とする、請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記導光板部は、
第1方向陰刻パターンラインが形成されて前記第1方向の導波チャンネルを定義する第1導光板と、
前記第1導光板の下に配置されて前記第1方向陰刻パターンラインと交差される第2方向陰刻パターンラインが形成されて前記第2方向の導波チャンネルを定義する第2導光板を備えることを特徴とする、請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記導光板部は、
前記第1方向の導波チャンネルを区画するための第1方向の陰刻パターンラインと、前記第2方向の導波チャンネルを区画するための第2方向の陰刻パターンラインが交差されるように形成される単一導光板を備えることを特徴とする、請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- 画像が表示される液晶表示パネルを有する液晶表示装置の駆動方法において、交互に直交する第1及び第2方向の導波チャンネルが形成される導光板部と、前記導光板部の側面に光を供給する複数の第1及び第2光源を利用して前記液晶表示パネルに照射される面光源をマトリックス形態のブロックに分割するa段階と、
入力映像を前記ブロックサイズ単位に分析して前記第1光源の輝度を個別制御するための第1ディミング値を先に決め、前記第1ディミング値に基づいて前記第2光源の輝度を個別制御するための第2ディミング値を後に決めた後、前記決定された第1及び第2ディミング値による隣接ブロック間の輝度差を減らすために前記第1及び第2ディミング値を調整するb段階を含み、
前記第1光源は前記調整された第1ディミング値に応答して前記第1及び第2方向の中の何れか一方向の導波チャンネルに光を供給し、
前記第2光源は前記調整された第2ディミング値に応答して前記第1及び第2方向の中の残り一方向の導波チャンネルに光を供給し、
前記第1ディミング値は前記入力映像の分析結果を基礎としたブロック別最終目標輝度値の中の第1方向の導波チャンネル単位に導出された第1最大輝度値に基づいて前記第1方向の導波チャンネル単位でそれぞれ決定され、
前記第2ディミング値は前記ブロック別最終目標輝度値で前記第1最大輝度値を減算して得られたブロック別中間目標輝度値の中の第2方向の導波チャンネル単位に導出された第2最大輝度値に基づいて前記第2方向の導波チャンネル単位でそれぞれ決定されることを特徴とする液晶表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記b段階は、前記決定された第1及び第2ディミング値を基準値にして、あらかじめ設定されたルックアップテーブルを利用して前記第1及び第2ディミング値を調整するための周辺輝度値を出力して、
前記周辺輝度値は前記基準値によって決められる輝度値との差が所定のしきい輝度値以下になるように設定されることを特徴とする、請求項7記載の液晶表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記b段階は前記第1及び第2ディミング値の調整程度によって発生する剰余輝度に関する情報をあらかじめ記憶して、この記憶された情報に基づいて剰余輝度上昇分だけ表示画像の全体的な輝度を低下させる段階をさらに含むことを特徴とする、請求項7記載の液晶表示装置の駆動方法。
